Job description

Job Title: Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) Instructor
Work Location: Spokane, WA and San Antonio, TX
Position Classification: Full Time Security Clearance: Active SECRET clearance Job Summary
SERE Instructors support high-risk training programs designed to prepare military personnel for isolation, captivity, and exploitation scenarios. Instruction is delivered in accordance with approved Programs of Instruction (POIs), governing directives, and established performance standards.
This role requires disciplined adherence to qualification, safety, and certification requirements while operating in physically and psychologically demanding training environments. Instruction may occur in classroom, laboratory, aquatic, and austere field settings.
The SERE Instructor contributes directly to the development of confident, capable personnel prepared to survive, evade, resist, and return with honor. High standards of professionalism, operational maturity, and instructional integrity are essential.
Washington-based instructors primarily support the Advanced SERE Skills Training Course and Long-Term Survival and Evasion but may also be required to support additional courses. Texas-based instructors primarily support Evasion and Conduct After Capture (ECAC) but may also be required to support additional courses.
Responsibilities • Deliver classroom, laboratory, and/or field instruction in accordance with approved course materials and training guidance
• Support academic, field survival, resistance, and/or evasion training events as assigned
• Conduct student evaluations in accordance with established standards
• Maintain instructor qualification, certification, and required documentation
• Participate in instructor evaluations and certification processes
• Maintain compliance with safety requirements and operational risk management procedures
• Support concurrent or consecutive course iterations in high-tempo environments; training schedules may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and multi-day field events
• Operate in austere environments and variable weather conditions as required; field training may involve extended outdoor operations in remote or mountainous terrain. Required Qualifications • Active SECRET clearance • Graduate of SV81A SERE Specialist Training OR graduate of DoD Level-C SERE course AND possess a minimum of 2 years of experience instructing at a Level-C SERE course, ECAC, or suitable related experience
• Ability to meet the physical requirements and pass the human factor evaluation necessary to safely conduct field and laboratory training
• Ability to support extended duty days and non-standard work schedules as required by training cycles. Desired Qualifications
• Experience supporting Full Spectrum Level C (High Risk of Capture) SERE training
• Experience supporting academic, field survival, resistance laboratory, or evasion training phases
• Experience contributing to curriculum development, lesson plan refinement, or instructor certification processes
• American Red Cross CPR and First Aid or equivalent
• Wilderness or survival medicine, e.g., NOLS Wilderness First Aid, First Responder, or EMT.
