Job Title: Supervisor of Laboratory Operations
Department: Laboratory - Chemistry
Location:Unity Hospital | 1555 Long Pond Rd. Rochester, NY 14626
Hours Per Week: 40
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8-hour shifts, 8a-4p
SUMMARY
The Supervisor of Laboratory Operations supervises day-to-day operations including accuracy for patient results, instrumentation, quality and regulatory issues, procedures and processes as appropriate, and oversees Laboratory Technological and Support staff as necessary. The Supervisor will also perform bench work as a medical technologist as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages the day-to-day activities of the Laboratory Section.
- Oversee appropriate scheduling of Department staff and daily operations and workflow.
- Assure that Department procedures and instruments conform to good laboratory practice.
- Assure validity of patient test results.
- Oversee information technology needs specific to the department, including updates and staff training.
- Work with Department Manager to interview, hire, train, supervise, discipline and terminate Department team members with appropriate documentation.
- Maintain Department files according to regulatory requirements and review files annually for completeness.
- Complete annual performance evaluations for Department staff.
- Foster teamwork and a collegial atmosphere.
- Maintain equipment and supplies.
- Confer with vendors to obtain best pricing, quality, etc, and monitor preventive maintenance on equipment.
- Adhere to all regulatory standards and prepare Department for inspections.
- Work with Department Manager and Physician Director to develop, monitor and complete appropriate Department QA, QC and QI monitors.
- Provide orientation, training, on-going education and competency assessments specific to Department.
- Perform bench work as needed
- Teaches in the Medical Laboratory Science Program and Lab rotations as called upon to do so.
- Coordinates with the Medical Laboratory Science Program administration and all areas of the lab to develop curriculum, lecture objectives, student evaluations, written and digital exams, and other duties as indicated.
- Participates in classroom instructions, monitors student activities, attends and participates in faculty meetings, and participates in accreditation reviews and reports as needed
- Additional duties and responsibilities as requested by manager
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 4 years' experience as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, or Medical Technologist
- NYS Licensed Clinical Laboratory Technologist
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certification by American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
- Previous experience in a laboratory leadership position

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant.
