We are seeking heavy equipment operators to work in a team-oriented, safety-first environment.

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Operate heavy earth-moving equipment, such as dozers, excavators, loaders, mining trucks, scrapers and more in all aspects of mining.

  • Perform proper equipment startup and shutdown procedures along with daily servicing of equipment.

  • Operate within the acceptable range of design capabilities of the equipment, aided by instrumentation gauges and indicators.

  • Perform all job duties in accordance with MSHA laws and regulations, established company safety policies and state and federal environmental regulations in a safe and efficient manner consistent with North American Mining standards.

  • Practice defensive driving and equipment operation at all times.

OTHER DUTIES:

  • Work with other equipment operators in a safe and organized manner and within established traffic plans.

  • Assist in water management, construction, labor, and maintenance activities as necessary.

  • Perform utility work and operate utility equipment.

  • Assist the maintenance department with routine repairs.

  • Keep the supervisor informed of any potential problems.

  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Possess basic mechanical knowledge of heavy equipment to assess condition and prevent damage.

  • Operate equipment properly within tolerances.

  • Assist with preventive maintenance and servicing as needed.

  • Ability to work with GPS units in the equipment.

  • Knowledge and ability to respond to emergencies and unpredictable situations.

  • Ability to recognize unsafe and adverse conditions and the knowledge to correct or report them.

  • Ability and willingness to work rotating shifts up to 12 hours per shift, including night shifts and weekends.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

  • High school diploma or GED. Relevant experience may be substituted.

  • Two years of experience operating heavy off-road construction equipment is a plus.

ANALYSIS OF PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION:

  • Intermittently: lifting and carrying 50 lbs. (tools and supplies); pushing 50 lbs. (making mechanical repairs).

  • Occasionally (0 - 1/3 of workday): standing and walking (maintenance and cleaning); pulling 50 lbs. (making mechanical repairs); climbing and balancing (on and off equipment, light plants); stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling (inspection and repairs); reaching (equipment operation).

  • Frequently (1/3 - 2/3 of workday): finger repetitive motion (controls, computer); speaking (communications, radio); color vision (identification of strata).

  • Continually (2/3 - 3/3 of workday): depth perception and sitting (equipment operation); handling (controls); hearing (equipment problem detection, radio, hazard recognition); seeing (equipment operation, hazard recognition).

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Must work rotating shifts, with some work being performed outside in all weather conditions with frequent exposure to disagreeable elements and hazards including heights.
