We're seeking a Resident Field Service Technician to become the primary technical expert supporting advanced CNC machine tools at a major aerospace manufacturing facility in Portland, Oregon. This position offers the stability of working primarily at one customer location while providing hands-on troubleshooting, machine installations, commissioning, preventative maintenance, and technical support for world-class manufacturing equipment.
Unlike many field service positions, this role requires only 10–20% travel, allowing you to build strong customer relationships while enjoying greater work-life balance.
What You'll Do
- Troubleshoot and repair advanced CNC machine tools
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, servo, and control system issues
- Install, commission, relocate, and retrofit large manufacturing equipment
- Perform machine leveling, alignment, calibration, and geometry verification
- Conduct preventative maintenance and machine inspections
- Troubleshoot spindle assemblies, gearboxes, ball screws, linear guide systems, drives, and motion control components
- Support 5-axis machining systems and CNC machine optimization
- Lead equipment startups and machine acceptance testing
- Train customer maintenance personnel on machine operation and troubleshooting
- Coordinate projects between customers, contractors, engineering teams, and service personnel
- Serve as the resident technical expert supporting a major aerospace manufacturing operation
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 4 years of experience servicing CNC machine tools, industrial equipment, or automated manufacturing systems
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
- Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, servo systems, and industrial controls
- Ability to read electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, mechanical drawings, and blueprints
- Experience performing machine alignment, calibration, precision measurement, or laser alignment
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Technical school, apprenticeship, military technical training, or equivalent experience preferred
- Valid Driver's License
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
