Job description

Job Description Summary
The Costume Shop Manager directly oversees the Costume Shop for The Clarice and its partners. The Manager is charged with supervising shop personnel including regular staff and contingent labor and activities so that a learning environment is maintained. The Costume Shop Manager works collaboratively with designers and costume faculty to ensure that students learn to construct costumes to meet the highest quality standards possible and to successfully realize the costume designer's specifications. The Costume Shop Manager provides daily oversight and direction for the Costume Shop. The Manager is expected to run an efficient and organized shop and to make the best use of The Clarice and other available resources to meet the objectives outlined above. This position promotes a safe and productive workplace by ensuring adherence to established policies and procedures. Some evening and weekend work is required.
Physical Demands:
Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to walk short distances, and/or drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Preferences:
- Minimum of five years of professional experience in theatrical costume construction or a related field, including experience in draping and construction, theatrical dressing, wardrobe management, millinery, wigs and theatrical make-up.
- College teaching experience.
- Masters Degree.
- Experience in forecasting and managing budgets related to show and event needs.
- A strong grasp of modern management practices relating to aligning staff and resources towards new and challenging projects.
- Experience working collaboratively with campus and community constituents to achieve organizational objectives.
- Creating and maintaining scheduling and resource management software.
- Demonstrate the ability to align staff and resources towards a common goal through ongoing vision and mission analysis.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Three (3) years of experience in performing arts or costume draping. One (1) year of experience leading or supervising professional staff.
Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education. Knowledge of current practices and procedures in costume shop and wardrobe management.
Knowledge of costume crafts, millinery, wigs and theatrical make-up.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products.
Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
Ability to multitask while demonstrating a commitment to customer service and sensitivity to a culturally and ethnically diverse community.
