Job description

Scope of Position: 

Business professional that can provide superior global logistics and trade compliance services to our clients, in addition to strong financial, operational, and leadership skills necessary to ensure World Class service

The Customs Entry Specialist prepares and processes entries, review details and verifies compliance data related calculations, and duty policies. Additionally, this role is responsible for ensuring the submission of additional information pertaining to cargo to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) before it is brought into the U.S. The role requires proficiency in classification skills as well as an ability to successfully interact with importers and manage post entry work.


Essential Functions

  • Process customs clearance confirming all necessary data and documents are available.
  • Investigate, resolve and communicate operational or entry issues.
  • Review fundamental components related to client requirements that include accounting, credit, customs bond, audit instructions and billing.
  • Work directly with Customs Border Patrol (CBP) and other government agencies.
  • Review entry details and verify compliance.
  • Enter all billing charges into system.
  • Participate in ISO audits and documentation updates.
  • Other duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • Required 2+ years’ experience working in customs entry/processing.
  • Proficiency working in Microsoft Office suite specifically Excel, and financial systems such as Cognos, SAP etc. preferred
  • Thorough analytical skills
  • Proficiency in written and verbal skills
  • Detail oriented, able to multitask and meet deadlines
  • Self-motivated, able to work in a team and independently

Education And Experience

  • Required 2+ years’ experience working in customs entry/processing.
  • Familiarity working with Customs Border Patrol (CBP) or Other Government Agencies (OGA)
  • Preferred experience working in CargoWise (C1).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Preferred High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Environment : 

100% performed in climate-controlled internal office environment working under normal office conditions.  Travel will be (up to__ %) required in support of the position’s responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers to feel and handle, reach with arms and hands, talk and hear.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to stop, kneel and crouch, lift weight or exert a force up to a maximum of 25 pounds.  This position requires employee to frequently work in a fluid, fast paced environment.



Additional Skills


Operations and Customer Service

  • Fully understand and properly monitor all operational aspects of the Import Transportation department. This includes meeting internal metrics, external customer KPIs, and operational process standards
  • Set the standard for outstanding customer service and ensure that all client expectations are met according to the KPIs outlined in customer Standard Operating Procedures
  • Innovate and embrace a culture of constant improvement

Finance 

  • Assist the product manager and accounting staff with collections (A/R), payables, (A/P), BNP, and reserves
  • Work with accounting team to ensure billing accuracy and timeliness
  • Ensure transactions are conducted in compliance with revenue recognition requirements

Compliance

  • Work with compliance staff and Customs Brokerage team to ensure import transportation activity is in compliance with company policies and standards
  • Ensure complete compliance with Federal Maritime Commission laws and regulations
  • Resolve all compliance discrepancies, errors, reviews, and corrections within the metric requirements

Business Development and Profitability

  • Work with product manager to ensure operational standards and customer service is at a premium in the marketplace
  • Assist with quoting and bid responses where necessary
  • Ensure departmental activities are profitable and in accordance with budget requirements
  • Participate in customer facing sales and retention opportunities

Transition and Retention

  • Work with Sales Team, Product Manager, and Customer Retention team to facilitate a proper client onboarding process.
  • Ensure customer SOPs are up to date and frequently referenced by staff
  • Understand and execute according to customer’s KPIs
  • Develop customer equity through relationship building with key accounts

Personal Development:

  • Responsible for working with the product manager to create a culture of continuous employee development, including the completion of the training requirement by all employees
  • Mentor and train all agents to prepare them for the next step in their careers
  • Actively pursue industry certification: IATA/FIATA, Customs Broker License, etc
