Senior Mechanical EngineerPay Range: $55/hour to $65/hour About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineering Lead to drive the design and development of electromechanical systems for motorized window-covering products and accessories. This role combines technical leadership, high-volume product development, and cross-functional collaboration with a strong focus on user-centered design, manufacturability, reliability, acoustics, and premium customer experience.
The ideal candidate has deep expertise in mechanical product development for consumer or architectural products and has successfully delivered motorized or automated products from concept through production. You will lead engineering efforts across global teams and suppliers while establishing design governance and engineering best practices.
Key ResponsibilitiesMechanical & Electromechanical Product Development
  • Lead mechanical and electromechanical design for motorized shade systems and accessories including:
    • Geartrains
    • Housings
    • Mounting systems
    • Clutch interfaces
    • Battery enclosures
    • Connectors
  • Architect scalable product solutions for annual production volumes ranging from 10,000 to 400,000+ units.
  • Balance cost, manufacturability, reliability, acoustic performance, and product quality.
  • Translate industrial design intent into manufacturable mechanisms and assemblies while maintaining aesthetics, ergonomics, and premium fit-and-finish.
Engineering Analysis & Validation
  • Perform and oversee:
    • Tolerance stack analysis
    • DFMEA
    • Durability and cycle-life testing
    • Friction and torque analysis
    • Mechanism kinematics
    • NVH/noise analysis
    • Thermal analysis
    • FEA simulations
  • Develop and execute prototype builds, test fixtures, and validation plans.
  • Conduct environmental, abuse, reliability, acoustic, and user experience testing.
  • Analyze system power consumption and energy performance.
Motor, Drive & Power Systems
  • Specify, source, and validate DC motors and gear motors for performance, reliability, noise, and cost targets.
  • Collaborate with electrical and firmware teams on motor control integration.
  • Design products utilizing:
    • Li-ion rechargeable battery systems
    • Alkaline battery systems
  • Support battery management, charging systems, safety, and regulatory compliance activities.
Design Governance & Documentation
  • Own and maintain the Design Review Release Process.
  • Ensure high-quality engineering documentation including:
    • CAD models
    • Mechanical drawings
    • BOMs
    • Specifications
    • ECOs
    • Revision-controlled AVL lists
  • Establish design checkpoints for:
    • Draft angles
    • Surface quality
    • Tolerance analysis
    • Tooling and mold design
    • Assembly processes
    • PCBA integration
    • Firmware/software revisions
    • End-of-line fixtures and testing
Manufacturing & Supplier Collaboration
  • Drive DFM/DFA best practices early in development.
  • Partner with contract manufacturers and suppliers across:
    • China
    • South Korea
    • Germany
    • Mexico
    • United States
  • Collaborate with sourcing, quality, compliance, and product management teams to ensure successful product launches.
User Experience & Industrial Design Integration
  • Champion Voice of Customer (VoC) insights, usability testing, and field feedback.
  • Design for:
    • Ergonomics
    • Intuitive installation and operation
    • Haptics and tactile feedback
    • Quiet operation and refined acoustics
  • Own CMF and finish quality including:
    • Mold textures
    • Gloss specifications
    • Color consistency
    • Coatings and surface protection

Leadership & Mentorship
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers.
  • Drive engineering excellence, process improvements, and best practices across teams.
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration with internal stakeholders and external design consultants.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master's degree preferred).
  • 8+ years of experience in mechanical product development involving electromechanical systems and high-volume consumer or architectural products.
  • Proven experience delivering motorized or actuated products from concept through production.
  • Expertise in:
    • SolidWorks and/or Siemens NX (UG)
    • GD&T
    • Mechanical drawings
    • PDM and revision control systems
  • Strong experience with:
    • DFM/DFA methodologies
    • Injection molding and overmolding
    • Die casting
    • Extrusions
    • Sheet metal
    • Precision mechanical assemblies
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Tolerance analysis
    • DFMEA
    • Reliability and life-cycle testing

  • Experience specifying and validating DC motors, geartrains, and battery-powered systems.
