Job description

Fall 2026 Internship: This position is located at our HQ in Durham, NC.  Expected program dates are September 14 - December 4, 2026. Anticipated working hours will be 15-30 per week. Final hours and schedule will be determined between the intern and their manager.

Introduction: 

The Economic Modeling Intern will support Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions' Financial Strategy and Operations function within the Solutions Group, gaining exposure to financial planning, forecasting, strategic analysis, and business decision support. The intern will partner with finance and business leaders to analyze financial performance, understand key business drivers, and support the development of financial models that influence strategic and operational decisions. This role provides hands-on experience in financial strategy and operations, product portfolio management, P&L management, and performance analysis.

Responsibilities: 

  • Support FP&A activities including budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and financial reporting.
  • Assist with financial modeling and scenario planning to evaluate business opportunities, risks, and strategic decisions.
  • Support business leaders in understanding the financial drivers impacting product performance and profitability.
  • Develop insights by analyzing key P&L components:
    • Revenue
    • Cost of Goods Sold (COGS)
    • Gross Profit (GP)
    • Contribution Margin (CM)
    • Selling, General & Administrative (SG&A) Expenses
    • Operating Income (OI)
  • Build and enhance financial models, dashboards, and analytical tools to support decision-making.
  • Perform sensitivity analysis and simulations to evaluate potential business outcomes.
  • Analyze financial data from multiple sources and translate findings into actionable business recommendations.
  • Create financial storytelling materials that communicate insights clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Required Skills: 

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Analytics, Data Analytics, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of financial statements, particularly P&L analysis.
  • Foundational knowledge of financial modeling, including the ability to build, interpret, and analyze financial models to support business planning and decision-making.
  • Interest in financial planning, forecasting, strategic finance, and business operations.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, team-based environment  
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data.
  • Comfortable working with large datasets and using data to drive business decisions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to present insights clearly.

Preferred Skills:  

  • Pursuing an MBA or advanced degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of managerial finance/accounting concepts, including financial planning, budgeting, cost analysis, profitability drivers, resource allocation, and using financial data to support business decisions.
  • Experience with FP&A, financial modeling, forecasting, quantitative analysis, scenario planning, or financial simulations.
  • Familiarity with data analytics tools and technologies such as: SQL, Python, Power Query, VBA, Tableau or Power BI
  • Experience creating dashboards, automated reporting tools, or analytical models.
  • Curiosity and interest in leveraging data analytics to improve financial decision-making.
