Kitchen Assistant - Part-Time

Colorado International Language Academy (CILA) is seeking a dependable, caring, and hardworking Kitchen Assistant to join our school nutrition team. CILA operates a scratch kitchen focused on preparing fresh, nutritious meals for our students. We are looking for someone who takes pride in cooking and serving quality food while creating a safe, clean, and welcoming dining experience for children.


Position Details

Reports to: Food and Nutrition Manager / School Administration
Schedule: Part-time, Monday-Friday on scheduled school days
Hours: Approximately 7:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Start Date: August 2026


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparing fresh, nutritious meals from scratch according to established menus, recipes, and portion guidelines.
  • Set up serving areas and prepare food for efficient meal service.
  • Serve students in a friendly, patient, and professional manner.
  • Wash dishes and clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, counters, and work areas.
  • Assist with garbage removal and end-of-service cleanup.
  • Receive, restock, rotate, and organize food and kitchen supplies.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, allergy, and student confidentiality procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records as directed by the Food and Nutrition Manager.
  • Work cooperatively with the kitchen team and respond to changing needs during meal preparation and service.
  • Follow all CILA policies and applicable local, state, and federal school nutrition requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous kitchen, food service, or school experience is helpful but not required.
  • A genuine interest in preparing and serving nutritious meals to children.
  • Willingness to learn and participate in required training.
  • Dependable, punctual, organized, and able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to interact positively and respectfully with elementary and middle school students.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift or carry up to 30 pounds.
  • Must pass a background check and meet all school employment requirements.
  • Food safety certification may be required or completed after hire.
