Job description

Position Overview:

The Materials Specialist position works in CHELCO’s warehouse to ensure that other employees have the tools and materials necessary to build and maintain CHELCO’s electric distribution system. In addition, this position will be responsible for the receipt, organization, and understanding of the Cooperative’s various inventory parts to ensure quality materials are available in sufficient quantities to assist the Cooperative in rendering reliable and prompt service. Some computer work is necessary to ensure that items are received and entered into inventory management programs properly. The work requires strenuous physical exertion, such as lifting heavy materials and equipment with or without assistance, driving a forklift, and recurring standing, stooping, and walking.

What You’ll Do:

  • Issue or distribute materials, products or parts and supplies to vendors, and coworkers based on information from incoming requisitions.
  • Receiving, inspecting, and storing inbound materials and equipment. This position is responsible for safely operating a forklift in accordance with Cooperative Standards.
  • Prepares and maintains records and reports of inventories, price lists, shortages, shipments, and goods used or issued.
  • Drive Cooperative vehicles/trucks and/or trailers, to deliver and/or pick up materials, parts, and/or equipment to designated areas

Required Qualifications:

  • A High School diploma or equivalent and at least two years of related experience.
  • Must have a Class A CDL license or must be able to obtain a CDL license within six months of hire (within the employee’s control).
  • Must have basic computer skills and excellent customer service.
  • Must be able to lift and move materials, supplies, and equipment weighing as much as 75 pounds daily from floor to knuckle with or without assistance. Must be able to lift equipment weighing at least 50 pounds from knuckle to shoulder and from knuckle to overhead.
  • Must have the ability to use the leg, abdominal, and/or lower back muscles to support repeated and continuous movement without fatiguing.
  • Must be able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Must have strong attention to detail and the ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve.
  • Should have the ability to travel over rough and/or uneven terrain.
  • Must be able to obtain forklift certification.

The normal workweek is Monday through Thursday, from 6:30 am to 4:00 pm, and every other Friday, from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm at the CHELCO Operations Center building in DeFuniak Springs, and remote work is not an option. This position is ONSITE only. Infrequent work outside of normal business hours may be required for training, meetings, storm response, etc. Except for STD/LTD/FMLA & approved time off, attendance at a designated worksite location is considered essential.
