Job description

Tennessee Valley Metals is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented CAD Designer to join our team. This position is responsible for creating accurate fabrication drawings and production documents for custom aluminum canopy systems used in commercial construction projects.

The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of architectural and structural drawings, is able to work efficiently under deadlines, and consistently produces accurate work with minimal supervision. This individual must be self-motivated, organized, and committed to producing quality work while supporting production schedules and customer expectations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret architectural, structural, and engineering drawings to produce detailed fabrication and shop drawings.
  • Create accurate production drawings, cut sheets, and installation details for custom aluminum canopy systems.
  • Ensure all drawings comply with project specifications, dimensions, building codes, and company standards.
  • Review contract documents, submittals, RFIs, and revisions to incorporate changes into production drawings.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers, Shop Management, and Production personnel to ensure drawings are complete, accurate, and ready for fabrication.
  • Develop efficient fabrication details that reduce waste and improve production efficiency.
  • Maintain drawing revisions and document control throughout each project.
  • Verify dimensions, material quantities, hardware requirements, and fabrication methods before drawings are released.
  • Work closely with the fabrication shop to answer questions, resolve drawing discrepancies, and support production.
  • Identify potential design conflicts before fabrication begins and recommend practical solutions.
  • Assist in developing and improving drafting standards, templates, and drawing processes.
  • Maintain organized electronic project files and drawing archives.
  • Complete multiple projects simultaneously while consistently meeting deadlines.
  • Communicate professionally with internal team members regarding project status and technical questions.


Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of CAD drafting or design experience (construction or metal fabrication preferred).
  • Proficient in AutoCAD. Experience with SolidWorks or other 3D modeling software is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of commercial architectural and structural drawings.
  • Ability to accurately read blueprints, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Excellent mathematical and dimensional reasoning skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to producing error-free drawings.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multiple departments.
  • Experience in metal fabrication, aluminum products, or commercial construction is highly preferred.
