Job description

Summary/Objective

This position is directly responsible for overseeing the sanitation of the facility, to maintain housekeeping and a food safe environment and to manage for the shift/BU, line cleaning, MSS and special activities. The Lead is also responsible for ordering supplies and materials and work with scheduling to fully support the operation regarding sanitation & housekeeping.

2-2-3 rotation schedule from 6:00 pm- 6:00 am

Essential Functions

  • Be a subject matter expert on cleaning all types of processing equipment in the 3 BU’s.
  • Be able to tear down and re-assemble basic equipment in the operation for cleaning.
  • Be able to mentor new trainees.
  • Be able to understand and follow all SSOP’s.
  • Be fully vested in the 7 Step cleaning process.
  • Be able to handle/use cleaning and sanitizing solutions at pre-set concentrations.
  • Utilize chemicals according to specific applications, such as foaming.
  • Perform all tasks associated with cleaning of rooms according to the Master Sanitation Schedule.
  • Operate floor scrubbers.
  • Operate scissor lifts or hoists, following height safety requirements and appropriate PPE.
  • Understand how to protect equipment from water or other damage during cleaning.
  • Understand drain cleaning.
  • Understand parts cleaning.
  • Make sure all sanitors are following the GMP’s and GSP’s (Good Sanitation Practices).
  • Be able to inspect all work areas according to pre-op expectations of clean.
  • Specific sanitation tasks as assigned by a Sanitation Manager, Coordinator or other Senior Leadership positions.
  • Perform the basic process for allergen and microbial verification.
  • Training Environmental sanitors and equipment sanitors.
  • Comply with all safety policies, procedures and good work practices

Work environment

  • This position operates in office areas, common areas and in the manufacturing operation.
  • The role routinely uses standard sanitation equipment such as mops, brooms, hoses, squeegees, etc. and cleaning chemicals.
  • All required PPE for plant operational safety is expected to be used.
  • Work may be at heights or in confined areas.
  • LOTO of electrical and pneumatic energy sources is a critical safety function.
  • Position requires ability to communicate and work well with peers.
  • Down day sanitation will be in/around equipment, with slippery floors and dusty equipment.
  • Work may also put sanitor in contact with food allergens.
  • Hearing protection will be required.

Required Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a food facility or other sanitation program.
  • Must be trained/competent in all aspects of sanitation within the facility.

  • Experience in a 24 hour manufacturing facility in sanitation or food safety

Physical Demands

  • Randomly required to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Periodically required to stand and walk and reach with hand and arms.
  • Working under and around processing equipment, potentially in close quarters.
  • Working in a wet environment.
