What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Astrodynamics Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Astrodynamics Engineer, you need a solid background in physics, mathematics, and aerospace engineering, typically supported by a relevant degree. Proficiency with orbital simulation software (such as GMAT or STK), programming languages (like MATLAB or Python), and familiarity with satellite tracking systems are essential. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective teamwork skills help you excel in complex mission planning and problem-solving. These competencies are crucial for ensuring the accuracy and safety of spacecraft operations and mission success.

What are the typical responsibilities and collaborative expectations for someone working in an astrodynamics group within the aerospace industry?

Professionals in an astrodynamics group are primarily responsible for modeling, simulating, and analyzing the motion of spacecraft and celestial bodies. Daily tasks often include trajectory design, orbit determination, and mission planning, requiring close collaboration with systems engineers, mission planners, and software developers. Team members frequently participate in interdisciplinary meetings to ensure their calculations align with broader mission goals and technical constraints. The work environment is highly collaborative, with team members sharing insights and validating each other's models to ensure mission success.

What is an Astro Dynamic Group?

An Astro Dynamic Group typically refers to a team of professionals who specialize in astrodynamics, the science of the motion of artificial bodies in space, such as satellites and spacecraft. These groups often work within aerospace organizations, research institutions, or government agencies to analyze orbital mechanics, plan space missions, and ensure the safe and efficient operation of space vehicles. Their work is vital for trajectory planning, satellite deployment, collision avoidance, and mission optimization.

Job description

Job Title: Product Owner Job Category: Engineering Time Type: Full time Minimum Clearance Required to Start: Secret Employee Type: Regular Percentage of Travel Required: Up to 10% Type of Travel: Local Anticipated Posting End: 11/6/2026 The Opportunity: We are seeking a talented and motivated Product Owner to join our dynamic team. As a Product Owner, you will lead the strategic execution of your team. You will serve as the primary authority on scope and "Go/No-Go" decisions, collaborating with engineering leadership to manage the release. Responsibilities: * Feature Decomposition & Technical Mapping: * Work directly with the Program Chief Engineer and Lead Architect to break down high-level mission capabilities into discrete technical features. You are responsible for creating Feature Decomp Blueprints-technical roadmaps that map mission logic to specific Java/Quarkus services, React components, and required data schema changes.
* Engineering Readiness & Context: * Eliminate architectural ambiguity for the development teams. You must provide the "technical tissue" for every story, including defined API contracts, data flow diagrams, and specific Astro UXDS requirements, ensuring devs can start coding without stopping for clarification.
* Backlog Execution: * Own and groom the backlog for both Java/Quarkus and React workstreams. You are responsible for ensuring stories are granular, technically sound, and meet strict Definition of Ready (DoR) and Definition of Done (DoD) standards before they hit a sprint.
* Sprint Operations: * Lead daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives. You are the first line of defense for the team; work closely with the Lead Engineer to aggressively clear technical blockers related to Docker, Kubernetes, or GitLab CI/CD pipeline failures.
* Requirement Validation: * Act as the final check on implemented features. Ensure that the delivered code actually meets the mission intent and matches the original feature decomposition before closing out stories. Qualifications: Required: * Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field
* 5+ years as a Technical Product Owner or Team Lead in an Agile environment. Direct experience in defense, aerospace, or GovTech is preferred.
* Technical Literacy: * Must have a working knowledge of modern software stacks. You need to understand how CI/CD pipelines, container orchestration (K8s/Docker), and microservice architectures impact the pace and sequencing of feature delivery.
* Space Domain Knowledge: * Familiarity with satellite C2, ground station operations, or geospatial visualization (e.g., CesiumJS or STK).
* Agile Stack: * Expert-level proficiency in GitLab for issue tracking, milestone management, and boards (or equivalent experience in Jira/ADO).
* Systems Thinking: * Ability to look at a complex orbital mechanics requirement and identify exactly which backend services and frontend components need to change to support it. - What You Can Expect: A culture of integrity.
