Under the general supervision and guidance of the Division Manager, the Crane Operator is responsible for the safe setup, operation, and breakdown of cranes to support construction and industrial projects. This role requires strict adherence to safety regulations, strong communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with ground personnel and project teams. The ideal candidate demonstrates precision, situational awareness, and a strong commitment to maintaining productivity while prioritizing safety.
This role also requires occasional out of state travel.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Safely operate mobile and/or stationary cranes to lift, move, position, and place materials and equipment.
  • Perform pre-operational inspections and daily equipment checks to ensure safe operating condition.
  • Set up crane, including proper outrigger placement, cribbing, and leveling.
  • Interpret load charts and calculate load capacities to ensure safe lifting operations.
  • Perform rigging inspections and coordinate closely with riggers and signal persons.
  • Lift, position, and place materials in accordance with project specifications.
  • Maintain clear communication with signal persons and crew members during lifting operations.
  • Monitor weather conditions and jobsite surroundings to ensure safe crane operation.
  • Perform basic maintenance such as greasing, cleaning, and reporting mechanical concerns.
  • Follow all company policies, OSHA regulations, and site-specific safety requirements.
  • Maintain detailed awareness of personnel, equipment, and structures within crane operating radius.
  • Assist with jobsite support tasks when crane operations are not in progress, as needed.

Qualifications:

  • NCCCO and/or NCCER Certification required.
  • Valid CDL Class A preferred.
  • Prior experience operating cranes
  • Strong knowledge of load charts, rigging procedures, and lift planning.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety practices.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to follow directions clearly.
  • Proven ability to work safely, efficiently, and professionally in a fast-paced construction environment.

Physical Requirements:

While performing duties of this position the individual will frequently be required to:

  • Sit for extended periods while operating equipment.
  • Climb in and out of crane cab.
  • Stand, walk, stoop, bend, twist, and reach.
  • Use hands and fingers to operate controls and manage small components.
  • Lift and carry materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Maintain visual acuity to judge distances and distinguish colors/signals.
  • Work in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and wind.
