The City of La Palma is looking for kind, friendly, proactive, responsible, and hardworking problem-solvers who enjoy working with a variety of people. Assists full-time recreation staff and lead staff member in coordinating and directing a variety of recreational programs and activities; performs related work as required. Positions in this class are responsible for organizing, coordinating and officiating at programs, and providing lead direction for Recreation Leaders and volunteers.

The work schedule requires weekday mornings, 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.; and afternoons, evenings, and weekends for youth special events. APPLICATION PROCEDURE: City of La Palma applications are required and can be obtained online at www.lapalmaca.gov

Scope of Work and Examples of Duties Essential duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Assists in the City's Tiny Tot program; maintains records and orders supplies; prepares documentation of programs.

Organizes, conducts and promotes programs for the use of facilities at Recreation Centers, and provides a program for the use of facilities by organized groups; assists in evaluation and makes recommendations on program activities; prepares reports and correspondence; assists in the coordination of city-wide contract classes. Minimum Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of: advanced methods, practices and equipment used in providing and maintaining an effective recreational and special activities program; recreation planning and administration; the policies, rules and regulations governing the conduct and safety of persons using the recreational facilities and equipment. Ability to: develop, coordinate, and direct varied activities involved in a community recreation program; supervise, assign, train and organize children and adults; keep accurate records; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, participants, instructors and the general public; communicate effectively orally and in writing; lead and review the work of paid staff and volunteers.

Education and/or Experience Any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary. Example combinations include: Two years paid part-time experience as a leader in a recreational activity . Special Requirements Must be at least 18 years of age or enrolled in college.

Must possess an appropriate California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately loud when in the field.
