Job Summary

The Maintenance Planner is responsible for assisting with the development of reliability based maintenance strategy, based on preventive and predictive maintenance. Works directly with the Maintenance Manager to build a reliable CMMS system and maintenance team. The Planner will work independently and with other plant personnel to perform preventative, predictive and routine maintenance tasks.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate equipment downtime & maintenance activities with production and keep them appraised on job progress.
  • Develop schedule for maintenance crew to service all plant equipment in a timely manner, so as to minimize downtime. Maximize manpower and equipment through coordination of schedules with operating and maintenance areas. Control costs and overtime to budget amounts. Interact with any vendors as required for support and information.
  • Utilize the current CMMS system (TabWare) to open and close work orders, track cost, document spare parts, create standard jobs and PM jobs. Document in text of each work order, date, hours, and nature of repairs. Monitor the PM backlog report to insure that all the PM's are being done in accordance with established schedules. Setup and maintain plant equipment within the entity structure of CMMS.
  • Monitor and control material requisitions for tools, parts and equipment to assure compliance with all company policies and proper charging to the Maintenance cost centers. Purchase stock items as needed through the Warehouse.
  • Coordinate, plan, schedule document and report on all major plant turnaround activities to assure maximum utilization of labor, material and equipment.
  • Equipment and repair parts data entry and management. Maintains equipment information and repair files.
  • Participates in plant safety, health and environmental programs.

Skills and Attributes Requirements

  • Ability to build and use maintenance library for repairs. Demonstrated logical problem solving and analytical skills. Ability to read and interpret documents and drawings. Ability to write detailed repair reports as well as good verbal communication.
  • Computer Skills: Expertise and proficiency with Microsoft Office (especially Word, Excel, and Access) and other basic office computer software, and the ability to learn how to effectively use maintenance software to input data and research parts.

Education/Experience Requirements

  • Post-secondary education and/or a technical trade degree is desired. Preference is given to B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Related work experience and education considered in lieu of four-year degree.
  • Helpful to have at least one year experience as a maintenance supervisor, planner or coordinator. Total experience for post technical degree of 0 to 5 years. Experience in the operation of a mineral processing facility is an asset.

Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job; the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, dusty conditions, high noise, outside weather in all conditions and materials used in the process.
