Job Description


KVOE, a leader in Kansas mid-market radio, needs an ambitious, self-starting news anchor/reporter to serve the Emporia area. This 4-station cluster embodies the "Live and Local" mantra we have used as our positioning statement for years. Our stations reach approximately 55,000 people in seven counties. The news department consistently wins awards for its coverage of local news, events and causes, including the National Association of Broadcasters Crystal Award (2012), Kansas Association of Broadcasters Tony Jewell Community Service Award (2010) and numerous individual awards just since 2005. Our cluster airs over 100 newscasts and on-air updates weekly, with all on-air stories posted online and frequent daily alerts on Facebook and Twitter. Midday and late day newscasts, story writing and website/social media updates are chief responsibilities. Regular beats include: Emporia City Commission, Emporia School Board, Flint Hills Community Health Center, local law enforcement/courts. Specialty broadcasting includes severe weather, elections, annual Year in Review. Play-by-play opportunities available. Other responsibilities as assigned.

Crisp writing style, clean delivery, passion for reporting meaningful stories and willingness to be a community leader are all prerequisites. Severe weather coverage is a must for both anchoring and field reporting; experience preferred. Schedule flexibility and basic computer skills are necessary. High sense of autonomy expected along with ability to follow specific directions in certain situations. Experience with Skylla, Cool Edit, KLZ Newsroom and basic cell phone photo/video skills all preferred but will train. Must move to Emporia if not currently a resident.
