JOB SUMMARY:

The primary purpose and function of the Long Beach Clinic Manager of Golden State Humane Society (GSHS) is to manage the clinic and ensure the highest quality of veterinary care, exceptional client service, associate engagement and maximum productivity of the team. The Clinic Manager, in partnership with the Director of Operations, ensures good communication with clients and associates to optimize growth of GSHS business. The Clinic Manager partners with the Director of Operations to operate an effective and productive clinic team, ensure a safe and engaging clinic environment, and improve both the quality and business performance of the clinic.  

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB/DUTIES:

 

  • Responsible for day-to-day operations with a focus on efficiency and time management
  • Supervise, train and provide back-up for all clinic positions
  • First point of contact for employee questions relating to treatment and non-treatment issues; work with other leaders to resolve issues/complaints
  • Develop and maintain employee schedules to ensure clinic is properly staffed at all times
  • Maintain time and labor system and employee data integrity
  • Assist in tracking licensing to ensure all licensed and/or certified personnel are current
  • Work with Director of Operations for internal software systems for email, internet, payroll, inventory, scheduling, and other workflow
  • Ensure safety is foremost at all times by implementing policies and procedures for human and animal safety
  • Security – implement processes to protect all GSHS property, staff information, the clients and their animals, client information, etc.
  • Process and manage cash, charge and banking process
  • Assist with the development of clinic budget
  • Assist in management of contracts and leases for equipment
  • Perform job duties in a positive, helpful manner providing exceptional customer service
  • Represent GSHS with activities and behaviors designed to improve our reputation in the community
  • Enhance the public’s knowledge of animal welfare as well as their knowledge of GSHS’ Mission, Vision, and Statement.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent and be able to read, write and speak clearly in English so that written and verbal instructions can be communicated effectively. Applicants who are fluent in Spanish will be considered first
  • Work experience, education and/or training relevant to the work described
  • A minimum of two years supervisory experience in an administrative and/or veterinary clinic setting
  • Previous experience demonstrating a capability to define objectives and carry out direction on schedule using independent judgment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Must exhibit an ability to identify needs and trends, conduct solid research, and provide solutions

 

Additional requirements: A demonstrated interest and enthusiasm for animal welfare; be dedicated to GSHS’s mission; be willing to work mornings, evenings and weekends as required by the job; have a valid California driver’s license and insurable by GSHS insurance vendors; meet the physical requirements of the job

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directly supervises the reception, vaccine, pharmacy, RVT, veterinary assistant, and kennel positions at our Long Beach clinic.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and reach.
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds repetitively.
  • Work performed requires lifting, bending, stooping, twisting, pushing, and other strenuous activities for extended periods of time.
  • The position requires regular use of a computer, telephones, and other standard office equipment.
  • Work is often done in a time sensitive and demanding environment.
  • Evening, weekend, and holiday work will be required.

 

PSYCHOLOGICAL DEMANDS:

  • Strong psychological stamina to work with public and maintain decorum in a high-volume setting
  • Interface productively with all employees and clients in a high-volume setting
  • Strong psychological stamina to work with terminally ill animals and euthanasia processes

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work takes place in a veterinary clinic, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Will have regular contact with animals with varying degrees of domesticity and physical condition.
  • Will be expected to work around live and deceased animals.
  • Will work directly with potentially harmful medications and chemicals, animal wastes, potentially harmful cleaners and disinfectants, high noise, and potentially hazardous conditions, including the risk of animal bites and diseases.
  • May be exposed to heights, such as step stools or ladders.
  • Must employ basic safety standards at all times.
  • Will have access to, and may be required to use, protective equipment such as gloves, protective eye wear, etc.
  • Evening, weekend, and holiday work will be required.

 

$45k starting salary
