Job Description

Last Update: 11/21/19
We are looking for an inpatient clinical psychiatrist to join our Psychiatric Services Department. This is a hospital employed position with our growing Behavioral Health Service Line.
The physician will guide an interdisciplinary team serving an average caseload of 8 patients on a 23-bed adult inpatient unit. The unit includes a 17-bed general admission and adjacent 6-bed psychiatric ICU. Although it is a locked unit, 90% are voluntary admissions. The inpatient team has been recently recognized by the State of Vermont for its exemplary work in leading the effort to reduce the incidence of seclusion and restraint. The successful candidate will be aligned philosophically with goal of minimizing all forms of coercive treatment through implementation of national best practice models. The psychiatry staff also manages a highly collaborative C&L service, sharing between 2 and 4 consult requests per day.

Through our multi-disciplinary Behavioral Health Clinic, there are many opportunities for part-time outpatient practice, which can be tailored to the strengths and interests of the candidate. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in addiction medicine who are interested in providing outpatient services at our Medication Assisted Treatment Center. If a physician has an interest in practicing a specialty one day per week, this could be done at the Outpatient facility.

Weekend call coverage is 1 in 6 weekends and includes coverage from Friday at 5pm to Sunday at 5pm with patient rounding on-site on Saturday and Sunday. Weeknight and evening coverage is by telephone only one night a week and assigned weekends. The psychiatry staff relies on a strong Crisis Team doing intake in the Emergency Dept.

CME allotment $6000 and 5 days.
Combined time off – 32 days.
Malpractice, Health, Dental, and Disability insurance provided
Relocation expenses up to $10K

Base salary plus pay for full call participation bring total salary to more than $275,000 per year. Additional paid call opportunities are available, but not required beyond those stated above. Options for a lower call frequency are negotiable.

Defined Contribution Pension Plan, 403-B with hospital match, and tax-deferred earnings program.
