SVB Financial Group (Nasdaq: SIVB) was the banking and financial services holding company whose principal subsidiary was Silicon Valley Bank. Prior to its collapse in March 2023, SVB served startups, venture firms, and innovation‑sector clients, operating active venture debt, private banking, and securities investment arms. It held over US $200 billion in assets in 2022 and was one of the 20 largest banks in the U.S. Its failure‑sparked by rapid deposit withdrawals and unrealized investment losses‑marked the largest U.S. bank collapse since the 2008 financial crisis. Most of its assets were acquired by First Citizens Bank under FDIC oversight, though remnants of SVB Financial (like SVB Securities and SVB Capital) continue under separate ownership ‑ based on publicly available SEC filings and FDIC documents.
