The Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks is accepting applications for Lifeguard Attendant including at Dundalk and Randallstown Community Centers.
Performs routine tasks as assigned, such as opening and closing the facilities each day according to scheduled hours, monitoring activities in and around the water, directing swimmers, providing first aid and maintaining cleanliness of facilities.

Job Purpose
Under direct supervision, will be responsible for safeguarding swimmers and non-swimmers afacilities.
Examples of Essential Job Duties
Safeguards swimmers and non-swimmers who patronize County aquatics facilities, including at Dundalk and Randallstown Community Centers.
- Enforces established pool safety, swimming and facility rules and regulations to the public while providing excellent customer service to patrons.
- Keeps facilities clean and free from hazards.
- Monitors weather and water conditions. Alerts patrons to changing weather and water conditions.
- Performs routine tasks as assigned, such as opening and closing the facilities each day according to scheduled hours, monitoring activities in and around the water, directing swimmers, providing first aid and maintaining cleanliness of facilities.
Examples of Other Duties
Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Must be at least 16 years of age by September 1, 2026
Must be able to work weekends and holidays throughout the summer and have days off on weekdays.
Must have reliable transportation.
Facilities are not located on public transportation lines.
Must be able to pass a criminal background check, physical, and drug test.
Preferred Considerations
- One year of lifeguarding experience.
- Current and valid American Red Cross Lifeguard certification.
- Current and valid American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED certification
- Experience providing customer service.
Licenses and Certificates
During the first two weeks of employment, must prove current and valid American Red Cross certification as a lifeguard and American Red Cross first aid/CPR/AED certification. Must maintain certifications throughout employment.
Must pass retraining requirements as mandated throughout employment.
Lifeguard certification may be eligible for reimbursement.
Conditions of Employment
- During the first two weeks of employment, must prove current and valid certification as an American Red Cross lifeguard and in American Red Cross first aid/CPR/AED. Must maintain certifications throughout employment.
- Depending on need, the department may provide training. Incumbents must make arrangements with their managers.
- Must pass retraining requirements as mandated throughout employment.
- Is subject to call to duty or overtime with little or no notice.
- Hours could be scheduled for any time between 4 a.m. and 10 p.m., Saturday through Sunday. Must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays and have days off on weekdays.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Seasonal Non-Merit positions are not classified within the Baltimore County Government Classification and Compensation Plan.
- Seasonal positions are not included in the Employees' Benefits Plan.
- Applicants who can work the entire season, Memorial Day to Labor Day, will be considered first.
- A work permit is required for employees ages 16 to 17.
Physical and Environmental Conditions
Must be able to perform the duties of the position without posing a threat to the health and safety of others, as determined by a current and valid lifeguard certification and first aid/CPR/AED certification, as well as a pre-employment physical exam and drug test.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Facilities may be hot and humid.
Must wear approved swim apparel and other apparel appropriate for operating aquatics facilities.
This position is considered "safety sensitive."

Health Insurance

Life Insurance
In order to qualify for life insurance benefits, part-time employees must be scheduled for four (4) full work days plus two (2) hours each week.
Employees may elect basic term life insurance for themselves equal to one time the employee's annual salary, rounded to the next higher $1,000. Employees contribute a portion of the premium through monthly payroll deductions. The County also offers an Additional/Employee paid Life Insurance plan with coverage up to $100,000.
Retirement
Employees are required to participate in the Baltimore County Employees' Retirement System, with very limited exceptions.
Paid Leave
Sick Leave - Monthly sick leave earnings prorated based on the number of hours worked per week. No maximum on accrual. Accrued balance can be applied toward service credit at retirement.
Vacation Leave - Monthly vacation leave earnings prorated based on the number of hours worked per week. Earnings increase after five, ten and fifteen years of service generally.
Holidays - Part-time 30 to 39 hour non-merit or non-classified employees will generally be paid for ten holidays per calendar year. Other part-time, non-merit or non-classified employees working 29 hours per week or less will receive two paid holidays per calendar year. These holidays are the Christmas holiday and the Independence Day holiday.
