Personal Banker Job Summary

A large, nationally-recognized bank brand seeks a bright, capable personal banker to work in a local retail bank branch. The personal banker is responsible for assisting customers with a variety of banking needs as well as the sale of additional bank products to current and prospective clients. The ideal candidate for this position is knowledgeable about banking products and processes, motivated and goal-oriented, and has an outgoing, warm, and friendly personality.

Personal Banker Duties and Responsibilities

  • Advise current and prospective customers on bank products and services that are best suited to their needs (e.g. checking and savings accounts, credit cards, loans, etc.)
  • Understand and be able to clearly explain the products and services offered by the bank branch, including but not limited to: checking and savings accounts, mortgage loans, vehicle loans, certificates of deposit (CDs), money market accounts,retirement accounts; traditional and Roth IRAs (individual retirement accounts), college savings accounts and savings bonds, like the 529 plan, and personal loans
  • Assist clients with managing their bank accounts and finances; refer customers to in-house financial experts as needed
  • Identify potential clients to reach out to; present our financial products and sell them on our financial services
  • Build long-term relationships with clients as a foundation to cross-sell our products and services
  • Open bank accounts for current and new customers; oversee transactions and close accounts when necessary
  • Resolve problems and issues with banking services as they arise
  • Perform administrative duties, like recording client information and documentation, entering data into proprietary software, and other similar tasks
  • Greet customers as they enter the bank branch and direct them to the correct area of the bank to conduct their business

Personal Banker Requirements and Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a personal banker is strongly preferred
  • Prior experience in sales and customer service are an advantage
  • Commitment to ethical conduct in all business endeavors
  • Self-motivated and determined in meeting targets
  • Tenacious problem-solving skills with a customer-oriented approach
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills; ability to build rapport within the community
  • In-depth knowledge of banking practices and regulations is a must
  • High school diploma required; Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related field is preferred
