Overview:
Substitute teachers play an important role in our schools by stepping in to make sure that quality education, effective classroom management, and school policy and procedures continue in the absence of the assigned classroom teacher. They facilitate learning by identifying and understanding individual characteristics of all students taught and present subject matter accordingly; manage the classroom by organizing it to stimulate learning and to foster discipline; make professional decisions about what to teach and across subject areas based on state mandates, district initiatives & goals, and available curriculum guidelines. Building substitutes are hired on a one year contract that automatically expires at the end of each school year.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Follows lesson plans.
  • Maintains a neat and orderly classroom.
  • Ensures that students are never left unattended in the classroom.
  • Keeps students safe and engaged.
  • Monitors student progress and assists where needed by keeping proximity.
  • Maintains existing classroom management and discipline procedures.
  • Understands building and classroom policy and procedures.
  • Provides written feedback for the classroom teacher.
  • Maintains accurate attendance records.

Key Qualifications:
  • Must hold valid Ohio substitute license or certificate
  • Experience working with school aged children
  • Must be open to actively participating in staff development opportunities to promote professional growth
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with students, staff and parents
  • Must have the full support of the Building Principal and Assistant Superintendent
