Job description

We are looking for a Phlebotomist/Lab Tech Assistant to join our full service lab team!
What You'll Do:
  • Collects blood specimens (e.g. venous, capillary, etc.) and urine specimens including proper drug screen collections (venipunctures on neonates are N/A in the outpatient area and on the inpatient units, may be required to rotate to the off-site laboratory.
  • Performs patient functions in the Hospital Information System (HIS) (e.g., registers, orders, updates, prints labels, etc.)
  • Performs various lab duties such as centrifuging sample, places tubes on analyzers (CBC) and other lab duties/testing as deemed competent to perform.
  • Answers telephone, takes and relays messages; communicates test results. Prints daily and final cumulative reports; sorts reports and properly distributes.
  • Maintains adequate inventory of necessary supplies; orders supplies; stocks storeroom.
  • Assists with training of various college and vocational school students.
  • Works flexible hours to adequately staff department.

What You'll Bring/Requirements:
  • Completion of post secondary program in Phlebotomy/Medical Assistant and experience as a laboratory phlebotomist preferred, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. National Phlebotomy Society certification, National Society Clinical Pathology preferred or other assisting certification(s).
