  • Reports to: Program Manager
  • Type: Full-time, Temporary. Approximately 40 hours of work each week. Work outside normal business hours will be required. Must be able to work evenings and Saturdays as needed.
  • Duration: Approximately 5-6 months.

Position Overview

Y.O.U. partners with the City of Cleveland to further promote employment, career planning, educational support, and environmental sustainability. Together, we co-facilitate the Mayor Frank G. Jackson’s Summer Youth Employment Program. We are currently looking for a Digital Media & Communications Team Leader who shares our passion for youth development. This is a temporary full-time position for a duration of 5-6 months. This person takes full responsibility and ownership of our summer internship program’s digital media and communications projects, which include producing a documentary and magazine capturing the interns’ activity and progress over the summer. As the Digital Media & Communications Team Leader, this person will manage a team of three staff to assist with the audio-visual, graphic design, and journalism activities of the youth interns. This person must be an avid organizer, planner, and coordinator to direct staff and students in capturing material for the final products throughout the summer. This person must also be willing and able to teach seasonal staff and student interns about the media/communications processes to complete such projects. Being passionate about project management, arts education, event planning, and teaching teenagers life skills, workforce development, and career exploration is essential as well.

This position is vital to the operation of the Mayor Frank G. Jackson’s Summer Youth Employment Program. As such, this person must be available for work for the entire duration of the program and have/maintain reliable transportation.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Graphic Design, Videography, Communications, Arts Education or other related field from an accredited college or university required.
  • Requirements:
    • 2 years or more of experience in project management and execution in a professional setting.
    • Must have experience managing teams to produce printed, digital, or video content. Experience directing or publishing a plus.
    • Must have experience with media/communications curriculum design.
    • Must have reliable transportation. An automobile is the preferred mode of transportation.
    • Must pass an FBI/BCI criminal background check as a condition of employment.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships; capable of relating well to people of varied backgrounds and education levels in a courteous and professional manner.
    • Extremely strong verbal and written communications skills.
    • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite programs, Outlook email, Google Drive applications, SharePoint and OneDrive online systems.
    • Comfortable using database management system and pulling reports.
    • Ability to work independently, and with teams, with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and initiatives at once.
    • Enthusiastic, flexible, and adaptable.
    • Possess a positive and solution-oriented attitude.
    • Knowledgeable in at least two of the following subjects: graphic design, journalism, cinematography, audio engineering, photography, or 3D rendering.
  • Responsibilities
    • Assist Program Manager with program operational duties to ensure smooth implementation and execution of program goals.
    • Manage the digital media and communications team’s projects, goals, and timelines daily and weekly. Provide regular direction to the team and updates to the Program Manager.
    • Provide training to team staff members and student interns as needed.
    • Coordinate work site visits with staff members, community partners, and vendors for interviewing and filming progress of the various ongoing projects throughout the summer.
    • Enter accurate and complete data information about the communications team’s projects into an in-house data management system used for tracking progress throughout the summer.
    • Provide regular reports and program information to management staff and community partners.
    • Conduct regular supply inventory and inspection of equipment/materials.
    • Proofread all communications team’s materials, products, and other content to ensure grammar is correct, messages are clear, and the optimal layout design is used. Final materials must be reviewed and approved prior to production.
    • Fill-in for instructors who are absent to teach student interns about communications/media principles, processes, and applications.
    • Exercise general supervision and leadership over seasonal staff who are part of the team.
    • Other duties as assigned and required.

Work Environment

This position is based in an office environment. The work pace for this position is sometimes fast paced where work is required for up to 2 hours at a time. Position requires some supervision from managers with intermittent prompts. Social interaction with clients and team members required frequently. The environment in which the job is performed outside a normal office space may include exposure to extreme temperature, noise, heights, or other hazards. All remains the same for any additional requirements for training.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit on a nearly frequent basis.
  • Ability to stand and walk on periodic basis.
  • Ability to bend, rotate, and reach frequently.
  • Ability to carry, push/pull and/or lift materials, or supplies, weighing upwards of 25 lbs.

  • Ability to manipulate/handle/grip materials required to perform job.
  • Must be able to maintain both static and dynamic standing balance to complete various duties associated with job.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision/distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
