About us:

Wildtype is on a mission to create the cleanest, most sustainable seafood on the planet, starting with sushi-grade salmon. We’re pioneering cellular agriculture to protect wild species and our oceans, and to reverse trends of global food insecurity. Wildtype will provide consumers with a new option for real seafood that provides the same nutritional benefits as the most pristine wild-caught fish, without common contaminants such as mercury, microplastics, antibiotics, or pesticides.

We were founded in 2016 by Aryé Elfenbein (Chief Scientist), a cardiologist and molecular biologist, and Justin Kolbeck (CEO), a former US diplomat who served in Pakistan and Afghanistan, in an effort to solve one of the world’s biggest problems: how to feed a growing population without stripping the earth of its natural resources and biodiversity. Investors include Spark Capital, Charles River Ventures, Root Ventures, Alexis Ohanian and Kyle Vogt, among others.

Come join us in transforming our food system for good!

Impact plan

  • Within 1 month you will have learned enough of Wildtype’s culture, both aseptic cell and social, to be comfortable around the workspace. You will have watched and assisted in dissections and have your own cell strains to maintain and follow.

  • Within 3 months you will have mastered basic lab techniques within Wildtype’s unique research environment. You will carry out routine cell culture activities such as media changes, passaging, expansion, freeze/thaw with minimal supervision. You will have worked with your mentor to establish professional development goals.

  • Within 6 months your dissection and tissue culture skills will be developed enough to prepare protocols and train someone entirely on your own. You will have performed experiments under the guidance of your mentor, then analyzed the data and suggest follow up experiments. You will be expected to work independently and have weekly check-ins with your mentor.

  • Within 12 months you will have expanded your techniques and understanding of the work to be able to explain how your contributions impact the company's larger goals. You will have presented your data in small group settings and learned how to apply critical feedback with a growth mindset.
