Laboratory Technician: Cell Line Establishment
Wildtype is on a mission to create the cleanest, most sustainable seafood on the planet, starting with sushi-grade salmon. We’re pioneering cellular agriculture to protect wild species and our oceans, and to reverse trends of global food insecurity. Wildtype will provide consumers with a new option for real seafood that provides the same nutritional benefits as the most pristine wild-caught fish, without common contaminants such as mercury, microplastics, antibiotics, or pesticides.
We were founded in 2016 by Aryé Elfenbein (Chief Scientist), a cardiologist and molecular biologist, and Justin Kolbeck (CEO), a former US diplomat who served in Pakistan and Afghanistan, in an effort to solve one of the world’s biggest problems: how to feed a growing population without stripping the earth of its natural resources and biodiversity. Investors include Spark Capital, Charles River Ventures, Root Ventures, Alexis Ohanian and Kyle Vogt, among others.
Come join us in transforming our food system for good!

Acute attention to detail and ability to maintain precise notes
Eager to manage many cell strains and handle 5+ dishes at a time
Willingness to work hard and persevere through repetitive zen-like work
Openness to learning new skills, taking on unexpected challenges, and working with different personalities
Experience with molecular biology and basic laboratory techniques a plus
Within 1 month you will have learned Wildtype’s aseptic technique and tissue culture skills to culture fish cells. We will rely on you to prepare media and other key reagents. You will have observed several dissections and be given several cell strains to manage on your own.
Within 3 months you will have become familiar with and actively assist in dissections. You will be carrying out routine cell culture activities such as media changes, passaging, expansion, freeze/thaw independently. You will be comfortable handling many cell strains and plates concurrently while maintaining exceptional sterile technique. With your mentor you will have established your professional development goals.
Within 6 months you have honed your laboratory and cultivating skills to the point where you will be able to train someone on your own. You will have helped create never before established cell strains and will continue to dissect (new species), passage and monitor up to 20 different cell strains.
Within 12 months you will have helped generate and expand several proliferative cell strains for the cell line development team. Under the guidance of your mentor you will have found optimal culturing and cryopreservation methods for several cell strains and species.
