Director Of Quality, 3 months, Contract
The Director of Quality reports to the company President and manages the Quality
Manager, Secretary, and Quality Engineers. The Quality Director drives the company
to meet and exceed customer requirements. This position will be part of the company
management team driving administration, company performance, and business
strategy. This position will work closely with all other department managers, a partial
listing includes the General Manager, Sales, Planning, Inventory, Purchasing,
Production, EH&S, and the Laboratory. The Quality Director will have direct interface
with customers and 3rd party auditing registrars. The Quality Director oversees all
Quality Department efforts including QC, QA, and QM.
QA: quality assurance The Quality Director will manage the Quality Manager and the
Quality Manager’s staff (quality engineers and secretary) to ensure conformance with
product quality assurance (manufacturing and customer specifications) specific to
chemical processing of metals primarily for aerospace and defense applications,
inspection and testing. This also includes the maintenance and improvement of quality
management system certification to ISO 9001, AS9100, and Nadcap chemical
processing. In addition, this position will become the primary manager to ensure ITAR
QC: quality control The Quality Director will create, implement and validate changes
within the company to ensure quality control as everyone’s job. This includes quality
awareness in everyone’s processes, quality control of one’s own work, teamwork, etc.
QM: quality management The Quality Director will create, implement and validate
changes within the company to ensure continuous improvements. This will include best
practices for administrative and operations process controls, lean manufacturing, and
performance effectiveness. This requires the development of an annual and long-term
quality strategy and a quality metrics for performance tracking.
Other duties such as:
Oversee inspection and qualification of complex aerospace and plastic products
Manage staff inspectors, quality engineers, and quality planners
Prepare for and respond to FAA, customer, and ISO audits.
Track and produce corrective actions for customer returns. Some customer contact
Manage receiving inspection backlog of 15 lots per day.
Continuously improve quality systems
Administrate headcount coverage, workload management, performance review, and
personnel discipline in compliance with company regulations.
Control of nonconforming material, quality solutions to maintain both quality and
workflow as required.
Chair Material Review Board to document control and correction of defects in product,
tooling, process. Initiate meetings to obtain decisions, corrective action, and monitor
corrective action effectiveness. Obtain customer deviations when necessary. Set
working quality standards- in conjunction with the customer when needed.
Provide support, testing, analysis, and advice to Engineering as requested.
Schedule First Article inspection and manage resources for completion. Take action as
required on findings or communication until customer approval.
Customer contact on any quality issues, arbitration of quality disputes, defect
containment, supply of certified product, and resolution of defects until customer
satisfaction is achieved and defect-free product is proven.
BS Degree, Master's Degree in related field or Business highly desired
10 years minimum of quality assurance experience.
Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance and Standard Measurement & Test
Equipment for Aerospace products
Ability to develop effective working relationship with customers, suppliers,
manufacturing, and product engineers.
Candidate must possess advance skills with the use of EXCEL, ACCESS, and
Knowledge of ISO and AS Quality Systems are required.
Audit experience in both internal and external customer systems
Lean/Six Sigma experience desirable
Knowledge of FAA regulations
