Do you bang your head against your keyboard when you see digital solutions that are completely unusable? Do you champion the cause of the forgotten user - challenging companies and designers to create something that people can actually understand? Then we’ve got the position for you in our New York office.
As Valtech’s User Experience Designer, your main job will be to fight for the user. Are you up for the challenge? Then read on.
Here’s what we’re looking for:
You fight for the end-user. No matter what the problem, task or system, you are the one always focused on the people who will be using the technology. If they don’t understand it, if they can’t use it, then there’s no point in designing/developing it.
Complexity doesn’t scare you. Your job is to make complex things feel simple.
You know the development process like the back of your hand. You’ve worked with information architecture, defined system requirements, conducted usability tests and end-user research (both qualitative and quantitative).
You not only talk the talk, but you’ve walked the walk. You can prove your love of the user through the designs you’ve made, and you can document your experience with both UI’s of various type and form.
You have a big digital toolbox. You’ve worked with all of the tools you need in order to create a phenomenal user experience, including MS Project, Axure, HTML, CSS, Flash, CMS, and web analytics suites such as Omniture, Google Analytics, etc.
You’re a communicator. You know how to get your point across to anyone who will listen and your passion and enthusiasm motivate your colleagues to love the user too.
Stress is your friend. Crazy deadlines, multiple projects, dozens of stakeholders – bring them on. You don’t just survive in fast-paced environments, you thrive in them.
So enough about what we want - here’s what you’ll be doing:
As the job title implies, your job is to champion the user. We work digitally, and everything we produce has an end-user. Your job is to make sure we don’t forget that.
Before each project starts, you’ll go in as the user’s representative. You’ll state what the user requires and you’ll see how far off the current system is from your user-centered vision.
You’ll work with information architecture and be responsible for updating and maintaining wireframes and website prototypes as each project progresses.
You’ll plan and conduct workshops, usability tests and user training.
You’ll make user experience measurable. You’ll define what a good user experience looks like for each project. Then you’ll translate that definition into numbers our clients can understand.
Since your job involves putting the user in the center of our digital universe, you’ll also be at the center of everything – talking with customers, architects, project managers and designers, getting the information and input you need to do your job.
