The Finance and Operations Manager must take pride in the details, accuracy and organization of their work while holding true to United Way’s long term strategic vision.
This position performs required accounting functions, basic human resources assistance, and occasional building management and administrative functions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Execute the accounts payable functions for the organization, ensuring that protocols for proper authorization, supporting documentation, general ledger coding and timely payment of expenses are consistently followed
Prepare monthly bank reconciliations; analyze returned items and outdated checks to ensure they are handled on a timely basis
Process and journalize payroll and related items
Manage miscellaneous accounts receivable including building rents and contracts
Ensure fixed asset system is accurate and up-to-date
Assist with reconciliation and analysis of general ledger accounts, quarterly financial statement preparation and annual audit preparation
Assist Vice President of Finance and Operations with human resources and building management functions
Cooperate with finance and operations team to provide shared back-up for administrative responsibilities
Ideal and Minimum Requirements
Associate’s degree required, bachelor’s degree preferred, preferably in finance, accounting or a related field
Knowledge and understanding of GAAP and accrual accounting
Nonprofit accounting experience preferred
Experience with general ledger, bank reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, sales tax and financial reporting preferred
Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new systems and skills
Commitment to the mission and values of United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County
Technical Skills, Abilities and other Requirements
Operational knowledge, experience and fluency with accounting software
High proficiency in Excel with the ability to update existing and create new spreadsheets
Proficiency using G-Suite platform
Ability to gather and analyze information skillfully, identify and resolve issues in a timely manner and implement a high level of creative thinking to propose solutions and provide information
Keen attention to detail and ability to self-check for consistent accuracy, completeness and relevance of work products
Innate ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive data and information
Desire to work collaboratively in a team-based environment
Ability to communicate (orally and in writing) with coworkers, donors, vendors, service providers and community in a clear, service-oriented and professional manner
