The Development Assistant will assist in the execution and growth of a comprehensive Development program to include donor communications, gift processing, and database management. This position will offer broad exposure to multiple aspects of fundraising, including support of the Dream Academy’s new “3 to 6” marketing campaign. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a strong interest in fundraising and nonprofit management and a commitment to education.


The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, abilities and education required to perform this job successfully. The Development Assistant must be able to effectively perform each essential duty.

Education and Experience

Bachelors degree preferred

Minimum of five years experience in Development, prospect research and cultivation, report generation, data entry/analysis

Demonstrated donor gift solicitation experience

Proven experience cultivating and maintaining a social media brand presence

Experience in Development and grant writing preferred, but not required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills that are culturally appropriate and can consistently reflect an organization’s mission, goals, values and brand

Utilizes active listening skills, while seeking to obtain clarification or answer questions appropriately

Exhibits a professional, confident demeanor, a driven work style and competitive spirit

Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently while managing competing demands

Reacts well under pressure; able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events

Experience in leveraging existing business while continually generating new leads

Proficient in using social media (Constant Contact, Twitter, You Tube, Video Tube, etc.)

Proficient in using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)

Experienced in planning and managing events

Demonstrates the highest level of personal and ethical standards

Demonstrates professionalism and an emerging executive presence

Travel is required up to approximately 10%

Attend evening and weekend events

In conjunction with other Development team members, support Development strategies and participate in activities at Learning Centers

Represent Dream Academy at fundraising functions



Actively participate in the execution and management of Dream Academy’s fundraising programs including; handling logistics and follow through on multiple events/programs at the same time.

Coordinate and manage implementation of grants, including the development of a tracking system

Coordinate the production of donor packets for National Office staff and field staff

Maintain calendar of activities for National Office Staff and field staff

Develop a pipeline of new prospects through outbound solicitations for individual ticket and table sales for events

Provide primary support for online donor campaigns

Work closely with the Director of Development to develop and implement a strategy for attaining revenue and promotional goals

Database Management

Manage fundraising database

Maintain accurate and timely records of constituents, donations, events, and deadlines

Produce analytical reports to evaluate fundraising progress

Receive and post all funds in donor system and generate weekly reports

Gift Processing

Process all donations using organization’s fundraising software

Work collaboratively with Finance Department to ensure that all donations are captured appropriately

Process and send acknowledgement letters

Donor Communications

Assist with design, production, and mailing of donor communication pieces, including annual year-end mailing

Event Management

Manage timeline for events

Coordinate logistics for events, including site research, vendor research, and purchasing

Manage invitations and RSVPs

Assist with day-of tasks, including set-up, registration, and volunteer management
