General Description (Mechanic): offer first-rate customer service building and maintaining bicycles, be a resource for customers interested in cycling related activities, maintain store neatness and cleanliness, be responsible for training service staff, stocking and reporting on the shop

Tasks

Essential Duty (30%): Customer Service

  • Answer the phone and greet customers asap and with enthusiasm.
  • Accurately process work orders, sales, returns, transfers, layaways, and special orders.
  • Provide sound information and recommendations on parts and accessories.
  • Be ready to assist—listen to the customer and strive to meet, even exceed, their needs.
  • Smile. It’s contagious.

Essential Duty (40%) Shop Management & Bike Maintenance

  • Run reports, review work orders, assign tunes, and issue goals.
  • Manage stock levels
  • Complete high-end bike builds.
  • Tune bikes efficiently—as quickly as possible while maintaining the highest degree of precision.
  • Enforce and help complete the Daily Task List (DTL).
  • Oversee the Wednesday morning cycle count
  • Attend weekly meetings with the management team.
  • Meet your goals (daily, weekly, monthly, yearly)

Essential Duty (20%): Continuous Improvement

  • Achieve and maintain Trek University “Ninja” status
  • Design and conduct occassional knowledge building workshops.
  • Complete a self-evaluation of your performance at the end of your last shift every month.

Essential Duty (10%): Store Promotion

  • Promote and attend 1 store event per year.

Other duties as assigned.

Tasks (Builder)

Essential Duty (90%): Bike Building

  • Assemble bikes in order according to a pre-determined build queue
  • Priority always goes to paid-in-fulls (PIFs), special orders and test rides
  • Use a checklist and torque spec guide for every build
  • Test ride
  • Tag with price and serial number (enter serial number and your name in Ascend)
  • Submit to senior mechanic for review (?)
  • Deposit bike on the floor or in the transfer rack.
  • Smile. It’s contagious. .

Essential Duty (5%): Store Maintenance

  • Complete the Daily Task List (DTL).

Essential Duty (5%): Continuous Improvement

Other duties as assigned. Builders are paid per build.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age with reliable transportation
  • Basic understanding of cycling and proficiency with related equipment
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Demonstrated organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to positively interact with people in a fast-paced environment with limited supervision
  • Willingness to work evening and weekend shifts, as needed
  • Previous bicycle mechanic experience required (exception: bike builders)
