Electronic Board Repair Technician

Overview

Titan is seeking a detail-oriented individual who has experience in electrical testing, soldering, component level troubleshooting, and general repair of electrical PCA assemblies. This is a ground floor opportunity with growth potential.

Titan is a leading Test and Assembly equipment supplier. We are particularly skilled in data acquisition and machine control systems for production test equipment in the agriculture, mining, construction and the Off-Highway Vehicle market. Our key customers included Caterpillar, John Deere, CNH, and AGCO.

Responsibilities

Reporting directly to Titan’s Director of ECU repair, the position will be responsible for:

  • Receiving incoming controllers and fill out appropriate forms for each step of the process.
  • Testing controllers to determine the cause or any combination of below failure(s):
    • Failed electrical component(s)
    • Manufacturing defect(s)
    • Software issues(s)
    • Microprocessor firmware issue(s)
    • Mechanical defect(s)
    • Environmental issue(s)
  • Sourcing and stocking necessary electrical components including obsolete and EOL
  • Repairing the board to the component level, reassembly, cleaning, and labeling.
  • Verification testing to certify that the repaired board is performing to specification
  • Preparation of report to describe findings, fixes, and tracking time spent on each repair
  • Creating and improve lab, test, inventory, and repair process
  • Interaction with Customers on both technical and logistics issues
  • Design and fabrication of custom electrical test fixtures to support new products as needed

As an Electronic Board Repair Technician, you will have responsibility for diagnosing, repairing, and functional testing electronic control modules which are used on off highway equipment. You will need to understand the function of each board. You will have engineering schematic and drawings to help understand the equipment functions and trouble shoot problems. Most boards being repaired are reliant on J1939 CAN communications and variations of overlapping protocols. Various Windows applications along with functional test fixtures have been developed to assist in trouble shooting, configuration, and reprogramming of the different boards to be repaired.

Required Technical Skills, Experience and Education:

  • Associates Degree in Computer/Electronics/Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum two years of experience in test and repair of electronic circuit boards.
  • Understands electrical schematics and associated electrical circuits.
  • Must have proficient soldering and de-soldering rework skills both thru-hole and SMD
  • Able to work with or without supervision and track progress on several priorities at once
  • Be able to self-manage work schedule to maintain on-time delivery
  • Be very detail oriented to make sure repairs are completed and verified correctly the first time.
  • Experience with electrical lab equipment: Oscilloscopes, Multimeters, Power supplies, etc.
  • Knowledge of CAN bus network communications and various J1939 based CAN protocols
  • Skilled in Microsoft Windows OS’s (Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 10).
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, Access, Adobe Acrobat, etc.
  • Experience with different communication protocols (RS-232, RS-485, Ethernet, CAN J1939)
  • Comfortable working with data acquisition hardware, DC power supplies, analog/digital circuits, frequency generators, load resistors, potentiometers, solenoids, valves, custom cabling, etc.

Additional Desired Technical Skills, Experience and Education:

  • Understand data acquisition systems which work with the system’s electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic components to collect, process, analyze, and verify data obtained for measurements taken of actual values (i.e.: flows, pressures, voltages, distances, etc.)
  • Understanding of a customer’s product, and the behaviors that would be expected to occur in conjunction with board level failures. Customer’s products to include various off highway equipment such as AG equipment (tractors, combines, sprayers, balers, implements, etc.) construction equipment, and forestry equipment.
  • Test fixture, electrical, mechanical, design, or development experience a plus
  • Familiarity with NATIONAL INSTRUMENTS data acquisition hardware
