Do you have extensive factory machine control experience? Titan is an engineering company and an established market leader in providing custom electrical and hydraulic test systems along with specialized assembly machines and systems. Our customers include Caterpillar, John Deere, CNH, Eaton, Danfoss and AGCO. We are focused on Fluid Power, Powertrain, and Vehicle Manufacturing in Off highway (Ag/Construction) and Aerospace industries. We are particularly skilled in data acquisition and machine controls. The test systems involve production testing of various vehicle electronics, construction equipment, forestry equipment, and agricultural tractors. Titan also builds test benches used for production testing of hydraulic components, e.g. valves, pumps, motors, cylinders, etc. Titan assembly machines and systems involve assembly and test of power train assemblies, e.g. transmissions, gear boxes, axles, clutches, etc.

POSITION REPORTS TO: Systems Engineering Manager

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY: Develop electrical controls and data acquisition circuits for custom hydraulic test stands and automated assembly machines. These custom machine controls consist of a variety of control components including PC-based machines with National Instrument’s data acquisition hardware and/or PLC platforms.

Typical machine systems comprise of human-machine interface (HMI) touchscreens, data acquisition hardware, analog inputs and outputs, digital inputs and outputs, frequency signals, 3-phase motor controls including variable frequency drives (VFD) and servos, DC power supplies, NEMA control enclosures, etc. Standard electrical machine control components may include hydraulic and/or pneumatic directional control valves, electro-mechanical servo presses, flow meters, pressure transducers, linear position and torque transducers, proximity sensors, network communications, relays, pushbuttons, and other components.

The Design Engineer would be part of a project team. The project team in its largest form will consist of a project manager, design engineers (mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic), a software engineer, and machine assemblers (fabrication, electrical, and hydraulic/mechanical).


  1. Must be proficient in using AutoCAD Electrical software to create and document electrical control designs for custom machines.
  2. Must be able to develop electrical control concepts to meet customer requests and specifications. Will be required to meet with the project team and/or customer representative(s) as required to review and modify design functionality. Must be able to present those concepts both verbally and written.
  3. Must be proficient in designing PC and PLC based control and data acquisition systems. Experience with National Instrument’s data acquisition hardware, Allen Bradley PLC, and Siemens PLC preferred. Design capability to include specifying data acquisition cards, possessing a good understanding of analog signals including maximization of signal accuracy, signal conditioning modules, proper grounding techniques, and specification of industrial sensors, DC power supplies, and proper wiring methods.
  4. Must be proficient in designing 480vac 3-phase industrial motor controls including variable frequency drives, servo drives, AC motors, motor contactors, and motor overloads. Power distribution includes selection of 3-phase disconnects, fuses, circuit breakers, and transformers. Will be required to specify NEMA control enclosures including component layout.
  5. Must be capable of specifying proper electrical conductors including AWG size, insulation type, proper shielding (if required), proper termination, etc.
  6. Must produce designs that are completed within the quoted number of design hours and can be built within the quoted number of wiring hours.
  7. Must be able to meet with vendors and specify within budget the required purchased components for the project design and document them accordingly within a bill of materials.
  8. Will be required to support shop personnel during the wiring and build phases of the design in order to explain design function, aid in solving assembly problems, provide technical direction, and answer other questions.
  9. Must be proficient in using MS-EXCEL, MS-WORD and MS-OUTLOOK.

PEOPLE SKILLS: Must be able to work effectively within a project team and take direction from the project manager and/or lead design engineer. Must be able to work closely with and give direction to electricians and machine assemblers. Be able to interface effectively and professionally with customer personnel, subcontractors, and component suppliers.

EDUCATION: Prefer a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering but will consider an Associate Degree in Electrical Controls Design with appropriate experience and aptitude.

EXPERIENCE: Must have a minimum of three (3) years experience in designing test stand control and data acquisition systems and/or custom industrial machine controls.
