The controller will have primary responsibilities for company financial accounting, bank transactions, taxes and statutory returns filings. This position reports to the to the company President.
Recording all financial transactions and preparing monthly and annual financial statements.
Reconcile all bank statements monthly.
Handle confidential payroll processing.
Recommend benchmarks for measuring the financial and operating performance.
Analyze monthly operating results for management.
Oversee daily operations of the accounting department.
Ensure timely payments to all vendors on a daily basis.
Monitor credit extended to Accounts Receivable and release orders on hold as appropriate.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Design, establish, and maintain an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the department's goals and objectives.
Establish and monitor Direct internal financial and procedural controls.
Provide liasion with outside CPA and furnish full information and reconciliations as necessary.
Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate Accounting staff.
Responsible for all Human resource functions for the company.
Responsible for filing of income and sales tax returns
Responsible for property tax renditions.
Responsible for vehicle registrations.
Responsible for negotiation and management of all insurance policies: property, liability, medical.
Manage the IT system and computer network and coordinate with IT service provider.
Provide daily/weekly/monthly Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to management.
Knowledge and Skill Requirement
Thorough knowledge of financial accounting theory and practice.
Knowledge of financial accounting software and ability to design the accounting system.
Knowledge of joint venture accounting. Should be able to understand deal structure and design the accounting structure to record transactions and financial settlements with JV partners.
Knowledge of applicable federal, state and City regulations
Ability to prepare financial statements. Working knowledge of rolling financial statements.
Ability to fix mistakes made by subordinate staff using journal entries as necessary.
Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
Requires willingness to work a flexible schedule.
Working knowledge of real estate: investments, rental properties, renditions, property taxes etc.
Education: BA in financial accounting. Master’s degree preferred. CPA not required.
10 years of hands on experience in financial accounting required.
Management Skills: The Controller must have a sense of urgency to achieve deadlines while managing priorities. He must have a sense of pride in the accomplishment of the requirements of his position with the timeliness and accuracy required.
Compensation: A competitive range of compensation is offered with a base salary of $ 90 to 100K and discretionary performance bonus. Company benefits include 401K, health insurance, and paid vacation and personal/sick days.
