The Sr. Director of Applications Development - US will ensure the development team executes on planned technology strategy meeting the business objectives. This leader will work with the US IT leadership team, Change Management, and the business to define and control scope of projects and prioritize maintenance requests and have overall responsibility for managing the IT team's application delivery. Role reports to the Head of IT.
Activities encompass the full Systems Development Life Cycle from project initiation and development through implementation and on-going level 3 production support in an agile environment. This leader will provide thought leadership and help to set the overall technical direction and strategies for the business systems.
Working with internal employees, IT at the headquarters, and outsourced development teams to deliver on the IT development roadmap, will ensure quality and on time delivery. This role requires extensive collaboration with business teams and other technology leaders and must have strong impact and influencing skills and executive presence.
The leader will manage a diverse group of technology professionals, comprising partners and employees, performing application configuration, integration, support and development. This Leader is instrumental in the development of capabilities that span Digital solutions, Finance, Workforce Management, Policy Administration, Claims and Billing bringing our clients a great customer experience solutions and a competitive advantage.
Provide overall IT leadership for Application team. This includes support for initiatives, relationships with both internal and external parties, and providing expertise and counsel.
Set scope and delivery expectations with business partners and Portfolio leaders.
Interface with all corporate and business unit leaders to communicate IT application development strategies/plans and gain collaborative support.
Remove obstacles, close gaps and manage and mitigate risks to ensure delivery on time, on budget and with impeccable quality.
Manage the Technical leaders and provide guidance as they lead their teams and set prioritization.
Works closely with the IT Leadership team and provides technical leadership to set corporate technology strategy and investment.
Take overall responsibility for Centric full life-cycle application development and delivery of complex product portfolios.
Create and lead the implementation of internal methodology and process improvements designed to shape the application development organization into a world class team utilizing best in class practices and technologies.
Ensure high quality talent, bench strength and succession planning through best practices in recruiting, selection, training, developing and retaining IT professional staff.
Provide leadership to the quality team and provide quality measurements to leadership team. Drive quality initiatives within design and development phase.
Manage multiple teams and projects simultaneously including a clear understanding of code branching/integrity approach across multiple efforts.
Solve complex technical problems and communicate the solution to non-technical management and peers.
Design project goals for each app developer, success markers, and determine how success will be measured and tracked; responsible for adjusting project plans to match developers workload as requirements change
Prepare and present progress reports and ensure the project is furthering organization goals; anticipating problems
Establish and adhere to an annual budget
Own technical solution design and delivery any application and integration components
Foster best practice SDLC methodologies
Possess prior experience in a providing technology leadership capacity in medium to large scale Transformation Programs.
A minimum of 15 years of experience in the application development / software engineering field and a lead role on Digital / ecommerce projects
10+ years of demonstrated experience leading and managing business applications development activities.
Proven track record of leading development teams and providing technical direction and leadership on successful projects
Thorough knowledge and experience with UI and front end web technologies (HTML, Java Script, Ajax etc.)
Experience with the development and maintenance of Drupal stack environments
Strong understanding of hardware, networking and cloud solutions.
Experience with object oriented approaches and working knowledge of MVC framework, Service Layer/Integration Platform such as WebMethod, and Communications/Customer Engagement platforms.
Microsoft / SQL Server environment experience
Demonstrated experience with ERP systems required, ideally MS Dynamics.
Knowledge of current and emerging IT products, services, and processes
Ability to adapt to changing technology and priorities
Experience with business-critical applications and large scale customer facing websites
Strong analytical and project management skills. Good planning, organizing, decision-making and problem-solving skills
