Job Summary:
Utilize a variety of hand tools, ladders, and power tools to install all necessary hardware for Voice, data, and video communications systems as directed. Test and repair hardware as required to ensure 100% operation. Work with senior Level 2 and 1 technicians and independently.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Physically install Category 3, 5, 5E, and 6 structured cabling systems.
  • Layout cable paths as directed and pull cables as indicated in job package.
  • Install wall/furniture plates and terminate cable to jacks and install in wall plates and label.
  • Assemble and install Data Equipment racks and equipment and terminate cabling to patch panels. Label all cable terminations and document on drawings.
  • Terminate and install cable to 8, 6, and 4 pin modular connectors for a range of telecommunications and data circuits.
  • Terminate backbone copper cabling to 66 and 110 type terminations and label.
  • Properly dress cable at the main distribution and intermediate distribution frames and other cross connect/termination points.
  • Diagnose and correct faults in copper and fiber cabling and connections and repair as necessary.
  • Test and document performance of copper and fiber links.
  • Remove abandoned cabling and equipment.
  • Installation and testing of various IP/Digital endpoints in a cutover environment
  • Troubleshoot copper cabling and circuits with legacy key systems and PBX.
  • Daily maintain Technician Work Log
  • Document all materials used on Job order and installation cut sheet
  • Interact with office personnel and customer staff as required to complete tasks.
  • Perform basic programming of systems.
  • Ongoing on the job training for advancement to Convergence Technology Technician Level 2


  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Technical school diploma in electronics or information technology/computer related field or associates degree. (preferred)
  • Good mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.
  • Color vision
  • Clean driving record
  • Excellent computer skills
