This position is responsible for a vast array of duties including the design, testing, and documenting of a variety of packaging protocols for a range of products.
Job functions for the PACKAGING ENGINEER position include, but are not be limited to:
Support and maintaining a database for all company packaging specifications
Generate packaging related documentation including specifications, test plans and reports, qualification plans and technical presentations.
Develop appropriate pallet patterns, stacking configurations, and other parameters necessary to ensure product distribution outcome is positive
Vendor engineering and technical capability assessment
Packaging vendor changes, manufacturing validation and provide technical leadership in addressing vendor quality issues
Support manufacturing in addressing technical packaging opportunities and production challenges
Collaborate with manufacturing to design packaging that does not negatively affect the production process
Provide packaging technical support for equipment installations and modifications to the manufacturing plant
Lead Packaging Cost Savings Initiatives by identifying cost saving opportunities in current and new packaging design.
Work cross functionally with internal group to take new development and existing development projects to market.
Define and test packaging material compatibility with products to ensure no recalls in the field
To be considered for the PACKAGING ENGINEER position, candidates should meet the following requirements:
Minimum of 7 years of packaging engineering experience in high volume manufacturing environment
Knowledgeable of Rigid Plastic such as EBM and IM process and Flexible packaging
Facilitate and interact with customers, suppliers, and internal cross functional teams.
Experience working with Aerosol and Tubes packaging (dispending and actuators).
Able to write SOP and Design and test packaging components
Must be able to Use SolidWorks, TOPS and AutoCAD proficiently
Capable of Developing and creating 3D models (Stratasys 3D Machine) and review mold designs.
Ability to take a project from concept through completion of finished piece.
Create new reports, line verifications, specification’s using excellent and organized written and verbal communication.
Analyze production machineries, lines and suggest improvements
BA in Packaging Engineering/Science
IOPP Certification preferred
UN/DOT Certification preferred
Able to Conduct ISTA testing and on site lab testing
Technical knowledge of packaging substrates and manufacturing processes
Team oriented; willingness to embrace input and seek solutions from multiple functional areas and work in a collaborative environment
Flexibility and ability to manage multiple priorities
Positive, solution based approach to all research issues
Comfortable working with data to guide decision making through design of experiments
