Currently, this Tier 1 automotive components supplier needs a talented individual to fill the role of a Gear Development Technician at our Technical Center location in Rochester Hills, MI.

Position Requirements: Required:
  • Bachelor's of science in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years experience with gear processing
  • Proficient in setting up (programming and tooling) and operating Hypoid Gear Machines
  • Thorough understanding of Cutting/Lapping/testing tooling, prints, machines, set ups and the operation.
  • CMM programming experience with Klingelnberg P machines
  • Proficient in operating and setting up Gleason/Oerlikon Cutting, Lapping, CMM and Single Flank Test Machine (Phoenix 275/Oerlikon C27, L60, P40 and 600 HTT)
  • Ability to travel up to 30% U.S. & International
  • Hypoid gear design and development experience
  • Familiarity with Gleason and Oerlikon gear processing machines (cutting, CMM, lapping, testing and grinding)
  • Experience in Gleason gear design software
  • Development & Processing of hypoid gears for various Automotive and Commercial applications to meet customer requirements in a fast paced prototype lab environment.
  • Work closely with the design and application group to specify gear development requirements, quality levels, performance levels and program scheduling
  • Cut, Lap and test parts for various prototype programs utilizing the Gear Lab Cutting, Lapping and Single Flank Test Machines
  • Review and approve gear product drawings
  • Participate in customer meetings and write detailed technical reports and create/make technical presentations
  • Blade Grinding, Inspection and Cutter Build Experience is preferred
  • Evaluate and recommend new equipment, processes and software
  • Participate in product design/development review meetings
  • Write test lab requests and approve results and lab set-ups
  • Assist production facilities with troubleshooting manufacturing issues
  • Benchmarking and performing competitive gear analysis
  • Participate and assist with PPAP’s and new product launches at domestic and international facilities
  • Other duties as assigned.
