Summary:

The Operator’s shift will be assigned based on the needs of the District and seniority with the expectation of working 1st, 2nd or 3rd including weekends. Minimum Experience required 2 years as an operator at a Class 2 or Class 1 wastewater treatment plant as defined by the Illinois EPA.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Reads and records meters and gauges or observes automatic recording devices at specified intervals to verify operating conditions.

Operates and visually inspects equipment such as pumps, valves, gates, chemical feed systems, odor control systems, digester heaters, thickener units, chart recorders and all other process equipment.

Performs preventative and/or repair work of process equipment.

Records shift activity in operator’s logbooks and completes daily check sheets.

Assists other plant operators as directed i.e. control testing, microscope work, etc.

Uses SCADA system it to manipulate and control plant operations.

Adjusts pumps, blowers, air diffusers, chemical feed equipment, digester heaters, thickener units and all other process equipment

Uses computer software programs for word processing, spreadsheets, Maintenance Management and Operations support.

Cleans and adjusts instrumentation.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Must have Illinois EPA Certificate of Competency as a Class 4 Wastewater Treatment Works Operator. Must have a valid Illinois Driver’s license.

We are an EOE and require a post-offer pre-employment physical and drug screen. This is a union position after a 100 working day probationary period and is represented by AFSCME union.

About Sanitary District of Decatur:

The Sanitary District of Decatur is a unit of local government and was organized 1917. The District has approximately 31,850 customers. Customers are divided into three categories: residential, commercial and industrial. While residential customers are the largest group in number, industrial customers account for about two-thirds of user fee revenue. The treatment plant is designed to treat 41 MGD during dry weather flow and has a maximum capacity of 125 MGD during wet weather events. In 2015, a staff of 53full time employees treated an average of 26.4 million gallons per day (MGD) and a maximum flow of 116.6 MGD.
