Director of Circulation & Database Marketing –

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Vice President of Marketing, the Director of Database Marketing and Circulation has online and print responsibility for the Company’s marketing database and direct marketing activities. He or she will also develop and execute the annual circulation plans, including customer acquisition, retention and reactivation programs, —and the Company’s results—by identifying, designing, and implementing advanced contact strategies and concepts, as well as maintaining and analyzing the Company’s customer database.
The successful candidate will combine circulation strategy and marketing/CRM experience with hands-on modeling, database marketing training and superior analytical skills. Given the high importance and scope of this position, this individual will need to possess proven leadership qualities, time management, and strong project management skills.

Primary Scope & Responsibilities:
The Director of Database Marketing and Circulation is responsible for the optimization of the customer database, managing all aspects of mail circulation, customer house file contacts and prospecting strategies. He or she will:
Direct and manage customer contact programs, including catalog, telemarketing, and e-mail promotions designed to achieve company sales and profit objectives;
Work on overall contact and multi-channel strategy with sales and marketing teams;
Work with marketing team to increase customer retention rates: on a segment basis, analyze, plan and coordinate activates designed to optimize customer lifetime value and retention. This includes strategic direction of customer contact pieces, product selection, and telemarketing implementation;
Drive customer acquisition to support business growth utilizing vehicles including solos, call campaigns, e-mail campaigns. Maximize customer acquisition to meet company goals.
Build and maintain company revenue forecasting
Create and manage standard and ad hoc marketing and customer reporting
Maintain and ensure the integrity of customer house file data/database
Responsible for source/promo code-driven event tracking and reporting
Manage and direct all vendors in support of direct mail and list management efforts (M/P, data appends, list output directions, catalog request/inquiry operations

Major Goals & Objectives:
Get to know the business, the people, the products, the systems, the organization, and the competition;
Take full ownership and responsibility for the annual circulation plan and improve profitability of mailings;
Take responsibility for accurately forecasting the business on a week by week basis;
Provide reporting on key marketing analytics;
Develop the 1-3 year circulation strategy.

Core Competencies/Experience:
5-10 years experience in a database marketing, circulation, marketing strategy position for a company(s) in an industry with an established reputation for direct marketing excellence;
Demonstrated superior analytical skills with proficiency in data manipulation and management, modeling and statistical procedures;
Hands on experience with Campaign Management/CRM tools desired
Subject matter expert for process of managing campaigns from planning to execution to tracking, able to meet all deadlines;
Solid working knowledge of database marketing principles, techniques, and processes;
Track record of working well with people in a variety of business situations;
Strong communication and presentation skills to expedite decision-making process;
Strong analytic skills, attention to detail, along with the ability to make recommendations based on analysis are extremely important;
Knowledge of SAS, SQL a plus.

Education Required:
A degree in marketing, economics, statistics, or business is desired, with multi-channel direct marketing experience. MBA is a plus. The individual’s intellectual strength should be demonstrated by his or her record of achievement.
