Paymerang is seeking a motivated Controller who values passion, agility, and teamwork to drive accounting operations. The role will be responsible for the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate financial risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with U.S. GAAP. This role will also be responsible for cash management and financial risk management. This position reports to the CFO and is instrumental in the future growth of the team and company.
Oversee the operations and organizational design of the accounting team. Mentor, train, and develop as appropriate to achieve the department's goals and objectives
Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
Maintain appropriate relationships with banks, insurance providers, accounting partners and auditors
Review daily reconciliation of operational bank accounts and monthly reconciliation of corporate bank accounts
Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner
Ensure that all reasonable discounts are taken on accounts payable
Maintain the chart of accounts
Maintain an orderly accounting filing system
Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions
Ensure the company carries sufficient insurance coverage
Ensure new accounting standards are appropriately implemented
Ensure appropriate local taxes are correctly calculated and paid
Prepare Annual Financial Statements and corresponding Notes to the Financial Statements to be reviewed by company financial auditors
Provide financial analyses as needed, particularly for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations
Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management
Provide for a system of management cost reports
Coordinate annual tax preparation with company tax accountants
Issue timely and complete financial statements
Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for annual audits
If necessary, monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants
Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
Other projects and duties as assigned.
· Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration, or equivalent business experience
· 10+ years’ experience with increasing responsibility
· Certified Public Accountant preferred
Preference will be given to candidates with proven experience in small business environments, financial services, and risk management. This role sits in our Richmond, VA headquarters. At this time, Paymerang will not sponsor a new applicant for employment authorization for this position.
