Summary Researches, plans, and designs mechanical and electromechanical machine assemblies and systems, and direct and coordinate activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of machine assemblies and systems by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Mechanical Engineer/Machine Designer:
Researches and analyzes data such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.
Coordinates and participates in designing custom machinery or mechanical systems.
Plans, directs and participates with engineering personnel in the fabrication of control apparatus and equipment, and development of methods and procedures for testing machinery or systems.
Directs and coordinates fabrication and installation activities to ensure machinery and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.
Coordinates the operation, maintenance, and repair activities to obtain optimum utilization of the machinery or system.
Evaluates field installations and recommends design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.
Consults with management and reviews project proposals to determine goals, timeframe, funding limitations, and procedures for accomplishing project, staffing requirements, and allotment of resources.
Directs and coordinates activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within budget.
Establishes standards and procedures for project reporting and documentation.
Prepares project status reports and keeps management, clients, and others informed of project status and related issues.
Confers with project personnel to provide technical advice and resolve problems.
Coordinates and responds to requests for changes from original specifications.
Develops business processes that ensure developed application meets all project requirements.
Develops and maintains technical and project documentation.
Develops quality assurance test plans and directs quality assurance testing.
Coordinates project activities with sales, engineering and client staff to ensure goals and requirements are met.

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree (Mechanical Engineering Degree)
5+ years’ experience designing a wide variety of automation equipment (high precision, testing, high speed, high force, heavy duty, etc.)
3 years of Project Management experience.
Willing to multi-task in a dynamic role
Good understanding of GD&T
In depth knowledge of how to create timing charts
High level of understanding of which sensors, materials, processes, and equipment to use for a particular application.
Basic understanding of how a machine is controlled & general knowledge of the following:
- HMI, PLC, I/O, high speed input cards, analog vs digital, 0-10v vs 4-20ma,
- High flex cabling, sensor connector choices
- CAT track, cabling & hose routing
Ability to write technical documentation (manuals, service instructions, etc.)
2 plus years cumulative hands on machine shop and/or assembly experience desirable
5+ years’ experience using SolidWorks CAD software for machine design.
Familiar with Microsoft Office applications,
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
US Citizen, Valid Driver’s license.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Travel up to 10%
