Job purpose

The Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of multiple pieces of construction equipment. The Equipment Operator is proficient in the use of a diverse range of construction equipment.  We are specifically looking for experienced backhoe and directional boring machine operators

This position will be in Ree Heights, SD.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Operate various pieces of construction equipment used in earth moving operations (ex. Scraper, Articulated off-road-trucks, compactors, excavators, etc…)
  • Operate construction equipment in accordance with company procedures and safety regulations
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment
  • Operate the equipment in the right direction and angles to prevent accidents and damage of property
  • Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment, and lubricate, refill and clean equipment as necessary
  • Use various pieces of equipment to perform fine grading and finishing, sloping and banking, backfilling, demolition, ditching, loading, excavating and stockpiling
  • Operate equipment in various situations, maintaining proper awareness of one’s surroundings
  • Report need for large repairs to appropriate parties
  • Perform other related duties as required, directed, or as the situation dictates


  • Minimum one year of operating construction equipment
  • Experience on multiple pieces of construction equipment is preferred
  • Possess a valid driver license
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment urine drug test and submit to random drug and/or alcohol testing during employment

Working conditions

  • Outdoor environment subject to changing conditions and temperatures
  • Occasional exposures to fumes, dust, odors, heights, and loud noises.
  • May be required to work 60+ hours, 6 days a week.

Physical requirements

  • Verbal, auditory, and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner.
  • Clarity of vision at varying distances to perform various work assignments.
  • Standing, walking or sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of specialized tools and equipment.
  • Reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally.
  • Occasional bending, kneeling, or crouching.
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling object(s) weighing up to 50 pounds
