In general, plan, direct, or coordinate the work activities and resources necessary for manufacturing Oriented Strand Board (OSB) in accordance with cost, quality, and quantity specifications. Supervise and direct production of OSB using materials, methods, processes, and procedures as adopted by management for the safety and productivity of the plant and all employees and contractors.


Accountable for day-to-day crew results including safety, productivity, quality, etc. Accountable for long-term development of team and team members to build depth of capability for improved results.

Accountable for delivering both short and long term team results around initiatives set by Production Manager around safety, MIP, continuous improvement, etc.


  • Accountable for the safety of their team
  • Accountable for promptly identifying and addressing unsafe conditions or behaviors
  • Accountable for timely and complete investigations, remedying safety concerns, educating employee on hazards and risk mitigation
  • Accountable to ensure effective safety meetings and toolbox talks, with involvement from employees and sharing of relevant information to keep employees safe
  • Accountable for ensuring employees receive adequate training to safely perform their duties
  • Accountable for employees’ adherence / compliance to SSOP, Norbord Safety Expectations, safe work practices and risk mitigation tools
  • Accountable for resolving environmental issues on shift
  • Accountable for meeting shift housekeeping standards


  • Accountable TM outputs, effectiveness, and adherences to policy
  • Accountable for performance management - including discipline, reviews, development - for TMs on Team
  • Accountable for selecting, onboarding, and training TMs in order to develop bench strength to fill current/future needs
  • Accountable for ensuring shifts operate at full complement and ensures shifts are properly resourced including maximizing effectiveness through cross-training etc.
  • Accountable for exercising effective leadership - leverage potential by engaging commitment, aligning judgment, and developing capabilities
  • Address TM concerns, issues and solve disputes within defined guidelines


  • Accountable for product meeting defined quality standards on shift.
  • Accountable to take action / adjust variables to meet quality and productivity standards
  • Accountable for engaging and resolving quality issues with QC staff and/or Technical Manager
  • Accountable for the usage of critical quality equipment (SICO, IMAL, etc.) and communication when the equipment is unavailable


  • Document deviations from standard procedures to support the Management of Change process
  • Execute plans for scheduled down days, shut down, etc.
  • Accountable for informing Production Manager of current, potential equipment failures
  • Accountable for completion and quality of routine check sheets, tasks, etc.
  • Accountable for maximizing overall shift results on throughput, uptime, efficiencies, and usages
  • Accountable for driving bottom up MIP initiatives
  • Accountable for troubleshooting equipment failures, determining work around and reporting deficiencies, problems to Production Manager
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Operations Manager

Indirect Accountabilities – Affects decisions of others

  • Report substandard equipment or deviations from standard work practices.
  • Data collection for RCA's around machine downtime or failures
  • TM recruitment
  • Ensure TMs complete safety training


Minimum qualifications are required to successfully perform this role. These qualifications are necessary for someone to be considered for the position. A reasonable accommodation may be allowed for some aspects of the role as determined by Human Resources.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • 3-5 years’ experience supervising hourly production team members in an industrial manufacturing environment
  • 5-10 years’ experience working in a heavy industrial environment
  • 3-5 years’ experience recognizing worksite hazards, implementing safety policies, practices and procedures

Desired Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Technology or other related technical degree.

This position reports to the Plant Operations Manager and has no direct reports. Shift schedule is day shift. Leadership is a key requirement for success in this role. Position is exempt.
