Job Description

Job Classification:
Full Time, Support Staff, Reporting to the Executive Pastor

The Senior Director of Care and Member Engagement (SDCME), under the direction of the Executive Pastor, will provide leadership to ministries of care and engagement to meet the needs of the congregation, to increase visitor matriculation into membership, and to further involve members into service in the life of the church.


• Provide leadership to the Assimilation, Guest services, Volunteerism, Health, Visitation, Ministerial Services, Bereavement, Prayer, Benevolence, Counseling, and Visitor Engagement Ministries.

Responsibilities: Care

• Directly manage the Director of Bereavement/Visitation and the office assistant who assist in the administration of the Pastoral Services department.

• Provide leadership for the development and oversight for ministry and their programs

• To oversee a comprehensive ministry of pastoral care for all church members and regular attendees

• To oversee, through ministerial services, the churches ordinances of baptism, baby dedication, and marriage.

• To oversee the distribution of the sacraments (Communion) through the Elders, Ministers and Deacons.

• To oversee the care to the bereaved through coordination and execution of funerals, home visits and etc.

• Ensure pastoral counsel to members during times of crisis, acting as a referral to counseling as appropriate.

• Oversee the strategy of counseling for New Mercies Christian Church

• Participate in and ensure the coordination of visitation of members in hospitals, homes and hospice.

• Oversee committee and approve disbursement of benevolence

• Develop and Maintain Pastoral Care training for Elders, Ministers and Deacons

Responsibilities: Assimilation

• Oversee the assimilations process of new members into the life of the church from new members, orientation, to mission community.

• Oversee the New Member Ministry (intake and new member’s orientation)

• Ensure new members information is input into church database, create and send written correspondence, make phone calls and send emails.

• Develop innovative ways to connect with our new members and ensure the members are not lost or disconnected.

Responsibilities: Visitor Engagement

• Work with marketing and outreach to create an initiative that generates new visitors to New Mercies

• Implement and maintain programs to ensure all visitors are contacted and followed up on to be connected to the Church.

• Oversee and organize visitors engagement and their matriculation to becoming a new member

• Create and maintain a weekly visitors center for first time guest

• Provide leadership for the development and oversight for ministry and their programs

• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Pastor and Senior Pastor

Responsibilities: Volunteerism

• Create and grow the culture of volunteerism and servant leadership within the church

• Foster a strong, active, growth-focused and recruiting-focused network of leaders, members, and individuals interested in becoming part of the church's ministries

• Implement methods of recruiting volunteers and develop processes that ensure a healthy volunteer growth rate over time.

Responsibilities: Other

• Implement church policies and procedures under the direction of the Executive Pastor

• Travel as needed with the Senior Pastor (Local and Abroad)

• Assist with Senior Pastor projects as needed (I.e. KAPsi Foundation)

• Manage daily social media posting for the Senior Pastor

• General ministerial Responsibilities (Teaching and Preaching) as needed

• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Spiritual Criteria:
• Professes Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior
• Commitment to personal spiritual growth
• Models standards and expectations of leaders within New Mercies Christian Church
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Master Degree or coursework in Christian studies is preferred
• 3-5 years’ Experience in ministry or church vocational work
• Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word & Excel
• Experience in organizing multiple projects and events
• Highly organized; flexible
• Exemplary oral & written skills
• Ability to multi-task
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
