Do you love working with kids and have experience working in a preschool classroom? The Montclair Community Pre-k has openings for Assistant Teachers from Monday - Friday 7:45 am - 2:45 pm.

To qualify for this position candidates must meet both the educational and experiential requirements and skills detailed below.

The required education and experience for the Assistant Teacher position are as follows:

  • HS diploma or equivalency

  • Completion of at least fifteen hours of college work in Early Childhood Education, including course work in children’s growth and development and early childhood curriculum or the equivalent certificate (NJ Group Teacher) within two years of hiring.

OR

  • Completion of the Child Development Associate (CDA) program from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) within two years of hiring.

  • Teaching experience of at least two years in an early childhood environment, preferably one in which NAEYC Accreditation was granted or in the process of being completed.

The following skills are required for the Assistant Teacher position:

  • Ability to work with and enjoy preschool age children, individually as well as in group situations.

  • Ability to work with all types of people and to communicate clearly and positively in a non-judgmental manner.

  • Ability to initiate own continuing learning program to further personal understanding of the developmental and educational needs of young children and to work towards promotion to Co-Teacher level.

  • Ensure the on-going welfare, health, and safety of the children.

  • Maintain a safe, healthy, and orderly environment.

  • Ensure a curriculum that prepares children for a public school K – 12 curriculum.

  • Report to the management staff any incident occurring to any child or staff during the course of classroom activities.

  • Keep equipment and materials accessible and in good condition so as to encourage maximum use by the children.

  • Adhere to all DCF Licensing Requirements as stated in the Manual of Standards.

  • Respect and maintain confidentiality of any information concerning the children and/or the families.

  • Attend and participate in all required staff meetings.
