Medical Laboratory Technician

Position: Laboratory Technician, Medical (MLT)

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Handle blood and blood products
  • Perform, interpret, check accuracy and report results on routine and complex laboratory procedures on body tissues, fluids, and other substances according to laboratory procedure manuals.
  • Perform the lab audit process which includes the quarantine, release and disposal of blood products based on disease testing results
  • Evaluate instruments and/or methods, ensuring correct reagent preparation and quality control information, leading troubleshooting efforts and monitoring the performance of equipment maintenance, utilize LIS effectively.
  • Perform general maintenance and cleaning of instruments and department
  • Document all requests and results of lab work accurately. Data processing and input.
  • Label all available specimen and quarantine/discard products, as necessary
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and communicate with providers and patients.
  • Perform phlebotomy on patients.
  • Assists as needed in all laboratory functions as required to maintain appropriate patient care.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's of Science degree
  • Associate's degree in Clinical Laboratory or a related field and two (2) years of related experience with ASCP preferred (MLT).
  • Must be able to work evenings, rotating weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work consistently in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Must have good manual dexterity and the ability to operate equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Ability to do basic math including addition, subtraction, proportions, percentages, scientific notation, etc.
  • Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, walking, lifting, grasping and repetitive motion. Lifting up to 50 pounds. Occasional stooping, squatting, pushing, pulling, climbing, overhead lifting.

Hours and Compensation:

  • Temporary Position approx 2.5-3 mo
  • Hourly compensation commensurate to experience.
