Kinross Round Mountain is an open pit mining operation located in Nye County, Nevada. Round Mountain is proud to have earned commendations for its safety and environmental initiatives.
The Environmental Planner will provide environmental support for the coordination of field studies, preparation of environmental documents and permit applications associated with the West Extension (WEX) Project.
Under the direction of the WEX Project Manager, the Environmental Planner will ensure that company activities are conducted in a safe manner and in compliance with company requirements, local, state and federal environmental regulations.
Key Areas of Responsibility & Duties:
Prepare existing environmental conditions descriptions.
Research information and write sections of NEPA reports, other technical documents and reports.
Prepare scopes of work for technical studies.
Manage technical specialists (e.g. biologist, cultural resources, hydrologists, engineers).
Edit, review, and update technical reports and schedules
Ability to analyze and prepare summaries of technical information in a manner that is understandable to a broad audience.
Ability to think critically about potential environmental impacts and risks.
Effective participation on the WEX Permit Strategy Team.
Effectively interface with Round Mountain staff, consultants, regulatory agencies and other government entities.
Perform other assigned duties that support Round Mountain permitting and compliance activities.
Minimum Qualifications & Skills:
Bachelors or Master’s degree in environmental planning, environmental science, environmental engineering or related field (e.g. biology, geology, hydrology).
Two to five years professional NEPA experience, with preference for experience in the hard-rock mining industry in Nevada.
Capability to perform independent research and strong writing skills in environmental disciplines.
Team player with the ability to communicate effectively with internal staff and consultants.
Experience working with public agencies, the general public and technical specialists. Nevada experience is preferred.
Demonstrated track record managing environmental studies and preparing NEPA documentation.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
Ability to correctly prioritize work effectively with multiple concurrent tasks.
Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project; GIS experience a plus.
This position will work both in the office and in field environments.
The position will be based in the Reno, Nevada (Kinross Regional office), but require travel to the Round Mountain mine operation and other facilities as required (up to 50 percent).
