Directly responsible for the Safety, Environmental impact, Internal Quality and Customer Satisfaction, Delivery Performance, Productivity, and Costs associated with the supervision of Casting, Hot Rolling & Scalping, Cold Rolling & Annealing, and Finishing departments.
Safety – Directly responsible for the safety and well-being of the direct employees associated with Operations and indirectly responsible for other employees who service the department. Ensures that the department is fully compliant with all Safety policies, procedures, audits, and programs.
Takes all necessary measures to protect Company property and equipment in the event of an emergency situation and sees all personnel within area are thoroughly prepared to effectively carry out emergency actions and programs, if needed.
Environmental – Directly responsible for the impact on Hussey Leetsdale’s environmental program. Ensures that Operations addresses any issues in a timely fashion. Ensures Operations has outstanding housekeeping practices.
Responsible for implementation of all aspects of the Environmental Management System (EMS). Member of the EMS Team. Provide guidance regarding environmental compliance obligations. Responsible for conducting routine self-inspections to check for malfunctions, deterioration, worker adherence to operating criteria, and unauthorized or unplanned releases.
Quality – Directly responsible for the quality of the material being produced by the Casting, Hot Rolling & Scalping, Cold Rolling & Annealing, and Finishing departments. Prevents substandard product from further processing. Understands and works with the Quality department and both the Eminence Bar Plant and the Fabrication Plant to address and improve upon quality concerns. Addresses any Customer complaints concerning Leetsdale’s quality. Develops action plans to improve the overall quality and consistency of the plant. Empowers the operators with responsibility for quality and holds them accountable for their output. Work with operators, Maintenance, Engineering, and Quality groups to develop better work methods and procedures.
Delivery Performance – Directly responsible for the timeliness of processing the material flowing through Leetsdale Operations. Works extremely close with Production Planning and Eminence Operations to ensure that production schedules are being balanced with downstream needs and customer issues. Works with Production Planning and Maintenance to satisfy necessary repair or PM turns.
Productivity – Directly responsible for the productivity (measured in several metrics – OEE, production efficiency to goal, uptime or delays, etc.) of the Leetsdale Operations. Routinely address any deficiencies and develop action plans for longer term sustainable improvement. Holds employees accountable for their work output.
Confers with Eminence Operations and Sales group to review current operating volumes and if any changes are required. Implement alternative courses of action in the event of equipment breakdowns, temporary shortages of material, or manpower.
Costs – Directly responsible for the costs associated with the Leetsdale Operations. Control and answer for the variance against budgets for labor, purchase orders, and storeroom withdrawals. Manage spending as budgets are adjusted for volume. Develop action plans to address historical larger spends.
Continuous Improvement – Acts as the process champion for the Leetsdale Operations. Thoroughly understands and owns the why’s and how’s of the plant. Works with Maintenance to develop PM’s that positively impact productivity and quality. Tracks and maintains all records associated with the plant. Acts as the owner of the process checklists to continue to refine Operation’s processes.
Provides direction and guidance for effective technical evaluation, development of process improvements, plant and equipment changes, as well as the need for engineering services, in order to achieve short- and long-term objectives.
Yearly Business Plan – Directly responsible for developing plans for Capital expenditures, extraordinary expenses for the plant, and action plans for moving the Operations forward.
Supervisory – Directly responsible for managing General Supervisors who directly & indirectly supervise the bargaining unit employees. Provides leadership, motivation, and clear communications to the plant. Responsible for training and educating both salary and hourly personnel in their understanding of the Operations and its procedures and processes. Develops employee succession planning program. Issues discipline as warranted.
Provides effective supervision within the framework of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and Company personnel practices and policies to maintain sound labor relations. Maintains harmony among workers and resolves grievances. Documents actions taken to resolve labor problems. Participates in the CBA process by providing issues with current language and significance of proposed changes.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: An engineering degree is preferred, preferably BSME or MSEE and a minimum of 5 years related experience. However, will consider other backgrounds with a significant amount of manufacturing experience and supervisory experience.
